Any thoughts on this ammo for Coyotes??

I usually shoot Hornady Superformance 53grain VMax .223.

Can’t find any and I probably have 4+ .223 platforms I shoot with the Superformance 53grain VMax.

Looks like intended use for law enforcement only.

Thank you!

I just bought a pile of 60gr Vmax bullets for reloading. The little testing i have done so far proves they are accurate. Searching through the old forums on this site shows a lot of info on that bullet.

It comes highly recommended for stopping power.

its a vmax.

hornady doesnt invent new technology for this kinda stuff - they just repackage projectiles in ammo with multiple purposes in mind. if you find an ammo type with the same Caliber, grain weight, BC, etc... it is that same bullet you'd otherwise find in the catalog. These may be the AMAX/ELD-M, VMAX, SST, GMX or even OTM style of bullet - but they're not some new unheard of technology.

vmax technology is perfect for urban "tactical" use when you dont want overpenetration. a bullet engineered to go *kersplat* starting about 2" into soft tissue and fully dump its energy within about 14 inches or so is nearly the perfect urban tactical use bullet.

we all know what happens when you hit something like a rib with one eh? everything between that rib and the other rib - within about a 6" (ish) pass thru line - turns into jelly. i have to imagine the result on a 2 legged critter would be about the same as it is on the 4 legged ones we target with our brown & red or black boxed versions of this ammo.

The 60gr V-max is the bullet my son uses out of his 223wssm, at about 3,700+fps.

At that speed, it can create a real mess inside of 200yds.

I had an average size female stop and turn broadside at about 180yds. I'm watching through my bino's when he shoots, and the coyote drops. A second or so later, still looking through the bino's, I see something fall out of the sky, and I'm thinking 'what the he** was that?'.

We get to her, and the UFO turns out to be a chunk of coyote, about a 6-7" patch of fur from the back, between her shoulder blades.
