Anybody got these calls?I got both, just wanted to know what you thought of them. Thanks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have the ki yi call, i think it sound OK, i do think it
could be a little louder though. just my 2 cents.

the hot dog is ok, for howling, but then I got a custom call from Tony Tebbe, and there is no comparison, but it works, so I would get used to that, then step up to custom, as it will be easier I think at least, to go from a hot dog to a horn howler,

The ki-yi is good for ki-yi'ing and distress if you can get it loud enough I think,

Both are overall good calls, and should produce coyotes, if they are there to produce,

I have both.
The ki-yi is a good call and the hot dog is terribale.
I bought the hot dog and tried howling and I can not howl with It I have tried differnt reeds and nothing works and the distress sounds like a bear cub crying.
Just my thought.

I prefer the Li'l Dog call over the Hotdog. Young coyote sounds get better response from older dogs and don't intimidate the younger dogs.

I have both of these calls and while i am not great they produce returns most of the time! If nothing else the hotdog is a great locator allowing you to zero in on the area where the yotes responded! Then put it away, it is too loud when they are close break out the little dog! I enjoy killing dogs and these calls are a cheap way to do that!Practice a lot! listen to call sequences on some sites and try to reproduce...no these are not anywhere near the sweet sound of custom calls, but they work!
"Use the kiya as a distress call, do your kiya on the lil dog"!

Wow, I think the Ki-Ya is tooo loud, I like it, I just try to muffle it in my glove. I have the hot dog, but I like and use the little dog more. I use the other mouth piece as a varmint call not as a howler. Paul

The Hot Dog is a poor call. The Lil Dog set is productive and easy to use. The KiYi is difficult for some to learn but works well, it is especially good for stopping a running coyote.

It's all a matter of preference. I have had the most luck with the Hot Dog. It's easy to blow for me, sound's good. I have the Little Dog and really have never used it. They both work, it's all a matter of what you like.

I have & use the Hot-Dog, and the lil-dog.
The hot dog is great for long range or windy conditions to get the sound out there.
The lil dog is good for calmer days, the green short range mouthpiece is a great distress call.
I've had good luck with them.
My brother has the ki-yi, I don't care for it myself.

Could it be that those that don't like a particular call are just bad at using the call? Most people are afraid to say that they plain suck at something so they blame the call.
Does a Les Paul guitar sound good? With me playing, no! With -insert rock stars name here- playing it, of course it sounds good. Don't blame the instrument when the player is at fault.

I think the different mouth pieces also work with some peoples mouths better than others. BUT I agree with smithers some too, I had a heck of a time with my Red Desert howler until I tried Tony Tebbe's technique he has posted here under "instructions on howling", now it sounds sweet.

I have both (did you get them with the dvd too? I LIKE that dvd LOL..
Anyhow I really like the hot dog and I like the KIYI well enough.
On the hot dog you can do everything from young pup, female, and dominate male calls. and you can Kiyi On it and do distress cries too. BUT its freaking loud LOL Even with the bell off I swear you could blow them out of the county LOL Its the easiest call Ive ever used /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif And Im way new to calling.
I am going to get the LIl DOg next just to add to my growing collection of calls. Plus to see how it is for calling closer.
My hubby likes the KIYI with the top piece on so he can sound like a rabbit with its foot under a truck wheel. Its the one call he has mastered LOL

There is some truth that some calls fit people different or work better in that region or climate. As with the Hot Dog for me when it was new & warm weather it worked good but was an air hog. Then when it got into the double minus degrees temps the Air Hog became very temperature sensative as other members have noted. I have several custom howlers from members here that will clearly outperform the Hot Dog with half the air at any temp. Easy to drive so to speak. The Lil Dog set is different and is easy to learn with great results. The KiYi can be quirky to learn but productive.

I have all three, and I found the Hot Dog the hardest to blow as has already been mentioned, it takes a lot of air. The air channel is huge, I really have to concentrate on using my diaphragm to use it. I really love the Lil Dog, it is the most versitle, and easy to use for me. I can use for distress, ky-yi's, pup growls and howls with ease. The Ki-Yi makes a great pup in distress.

I just ordered Tony Tebbe's "Molded Cow Tip Horn" call, can't wait to use it. I really like the sounds it makes and Tony was really nice to help me decide which one to get.
