hot loads for .22 LR

what are you trying to kill? A heavier bullet in a .22 LR would be the opposite of 'hot'. Some subsonic loads get their lower speed from a heavier bullet. Couldn't suggest trying to kill anything but a small bird with them though.

hey there, first post!!
I had very poor luck with the 22lr until I switched to the CCI Stinger. That little round whizzes along at a reported 1640 fps, 33% faster than standard. In my Ruger 10/22 they are more accurate than the standard rounds and much flatter trajectory.

CCI Stinger - 1640 fps; Energy at 50 yards - 130.
CCI Velocitor - 1435 fps; Energy at 50 yards - 139.

You might also try Remington hyper velocity - Yellow Jacket is a 33 grn hollow point and Viper is a 36 grn solid. I do not know the ballistics on either of these.

Interesting......
I use these exclusively for hunting.....Remington Sub-sonic.
I shoot Ruger KMK-10 Mark II and found that these don't tear up the rabbits like any other hollow point round. I only do head shots and almost every other round makes their little heads explode. These still drop a rabbit with a single shot under 50 yards......now you say but that's really close, so I guess it's ok......I also use them exclusively for prairie dogs....out to about 150 yards.
I do switch to a rifle instead of the pistil at these ranges. The reason I love them on P-dogs is they usually don't alarm the p-dogs until I've shot about 20 of them.

Because they are sub-sonic they are very stable in flight and can get really tight groups at any range once you know the bullet drop. Better groups than any high velocity 22.lr I've tried with the exception of CCI CB's which are also sub-sonic.

Oh yeah, the bad part....these babies are about $22 a brick....like double the price of standard .22lr ammo.

The Remington Cyclone is 36 grn hollow point. The CCI Velocitor is a 40 grn hollow point. I like the Velocitor. That is what my son hunts with. They all have cool mascots too. My son loves that.

I get good accuracy with the CCI MiniMags, but the CCI Stingers do not shoot well in my Marlin bolt action.

I have an old Mossberg 22lr I use for squirrels & a Ruger MarkII with the 10" bull. They both like the CCI QuikShoks rather well. The fps in the rifle was 1609 for 5 shots & the Ruger gave up 1501fps for 5 shots. They have a segmented bullet that goes into 3 pieces when the jacket peels back. They are rough on small things like squirrels but they tend to make ground hogs very dead out to 65yds with head or chest shots. They are a hollow point as well. HTH

I shoot Eley High Velocity Hollow Points. Superb accuracy and great terminal effect. I've killed quite a few groundhogs, coons, and feral cats in my barnlot at 100 yards from my backyard fence. They have all been DRT (dead right there) and the added benefit of genuine target grade "head shootin'" accuracy.

Welcome Julian! I have to commend you on your fine choice of Avatar.! Us Cheeseheads and Tennesseeans got to stick together.

Ran out quick last spring and picked up my Marlin 22lr loaded with Stingers. I ended up spanking a yote at 40 yards in the front of the chest (not the best place, but he wouldn't stop). Bang-spin-run, hit him again at about 75 yards in the arse: Bang-spin-what bit me? run. Never found him. We chalked it up as a kill even though we never found blood, I think due to thick fur. I would not suggest a 22lr for yotes in my personal opinion. Shots are not always ideal and you need the extra power for those occasions.

K9 Killer: I should clarify that niether my son nor I use .22LR to hunt coyote. We use it exclusively on elk and cape buffalo. Seriously though, I have used it a couple of times on grey fox when hunting thick narrow canyon country near highly recreated lakes but that is it. I have to say, nothing beats shooting .22s with my son, and my T/C Benchmark should be getting back any day now. What are you going to use it for?

Quik Shok I say again Quik Shok gotta be the killin' est 22LR that there is, even kill a West Texas Black Tail Jack. They are the most leathal 22 LR there is!
