I usually pick up new spots here in NE Texas after deer season. Land owners have already collected their money from leasing to deer hunters and many appreciate culling as many coyotes as possible. I don't even ask until the 2nd weekend in January. Most varmint tournaments are also starting up around then so you might have to work around them as well.
