I am very new to trapping and been reading alot of info on this board. Where I live I have tons of skunks. whats the best way to catch or bait them? My neighbors grand mother lives around the corner from me and she has killed 29 last year and want me to come catch em. I figured I would give it a try.

Thanks
Curtis

Yoplait yogurt container with just a little left in the bottom. The skunk will stick his head in there and can't get it out.

I know nothing about trapping , but skunks have to be the easiest to catch. We had something getting in the trash sack at the cabin. Found an old trap inthe cabin (not sure what size). I staked the chain to a rail road tie, sett he trap and put some left over pasta salad on it from dinner. Had a skunk the next morning. Set again that night with some more left overs and had another in the am. No stain, no boiling, no worry about scent.

5 gallon bucket and a 220 conibear.

Yep that will do the trick. Or just set a trap of any sorts. They seem to be the first thing you always catch.

Get a bucket trap kit from www.snareshop.com or wrap your cage trap in a small tarp. Biat with vanilla wafers, skunks love the wafers, but the cats leave them alone..for the most part. Once you catch the skunk you can walk up and remove the trap to an area where you can dispatch it without stinking up the trap area. If you drown then they won't spray and you can carefully skin them and have a very nice hide tanned. If your not worried about the hide, take them out, stay up wind and release them, then shotgun them once they are out about 20 yards or so.

Got a buddy that when younger was told if you pick them up by the tail they won't spray you. He was lied to.

5 Gallon bucket with a urine soaked rabbitt tied to the back of the bucket. 220 will get em everytime and they won't spray. I caught 4 in 4 nights with this setup and none of them sprayed, they were just DRT.

I sure do catch plenty on my bobcat line on accident. Make a hole set using a leg hold trap. Throw any kind of bait or lure u want in there. I catch a lot on feathers thrown in the back of the hole and maybe some quail guts or cat lure. Shoot em in the head and they wont spray. But hit the mouth or neck and ur in trouble buddy.

easy to catch...a skunk was the first thing i ever caught if you use a leghold or box trap when u shoot them use a well placed body shot instead of a head shot they wont spray as much

Set a live trap (cage trap) or whatever you prefer to call it.And then bait it with a cottontail rabbit.A buddy of mine caught a skunk just yesterday with this exact set up.I tagged along with him just in case he caught any animals that were worth keeping.
After you catch it just walk up and let it out.And no Im not jokin.I did it and didnt get sprayed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Once it gets far enough away from the trap, shoot it with a shotgun and reset the trap and repeat if necessary. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
