How do I change a RRA CAR Wraparound Half Quad

I have a RRA coyote carbine that I purchased with this on it thinking I would need the rails for lights. I am using my Burris PEPR to mount my light and I would like to change this out to a lighter handgaurd. I believe it just unscrews with a spaner wrench or a strap wrench but just want to make sure.
If anyone has an any recomendations on a good light weight handgaurd I would apreciate it. I just need to be able to mount a sling to it.
Thanks

There was a post in this section earlier in reference to this. If I remember right your handguard had loc-tite on it. Loosen the screw on the bottom of the handguard, heat up the rear of it, and it should unscrew.

I have not tried to remove it yet. What is the best way to heat them up, hair dryer?
Why would they need loctite and should I put it on new one?

There are no allen head screws. Maybe pics will help:

The other issue is my compensator is welded and pinned to be NY compliant so I am guessing I can't get the gas block off to put on a different mount for a different handguard. This is my first AR so I am learning.

The gray ring behind your handguard needs to be loosened. If you don't have the spanner tool to do it, use a flat head screwdriver. (Lefty loosy) Once it is loose, you should be able to unscrew the handguard. If it does not turn, hit it with some heat to loosen any loc-tite.

I have not tried to but I believe it will come off the way you said...Issue is with the break welded on barrel I am unable to change the nut that holds the hand guard on. Waiting for a reply from RRA on the diameter and tread of the nut so I can figure out if there are any hand guards out there that will work with the nut I have.

APEX handguards use your current barrel nut and slip over pinned/welded muzzle devices. You have to buy the full length top rail seperate though. I was going to get one for my 308 AR, but they were out at the time. Looks like all they have at Rainier Arms is mid-length and longer.

APEX handguard

Troy makes one too, Troy Alpha rail

Excellent, I will look into... This will be much better than having to replace upper or have comp machined off!
Thanks for your help !!!
