I carry everything in my old camo Army "Alice" pack. I searched around for a while for an apporpriate pack to do what I wanted, without much luck. One day I spied my old Army ruck in the rafters in the garage, and the rest is history.
I switched to this from a fanny pack after I herniated a disc, and had to have a way to get a small folding chair out with me to the stands.
The pack has one large compartment, with 3 large pockets on the outside.
In one pocket goes the Foxpro, in the other goes my enticer decoy, and binos, gps, cell phone, and camera in the 3rd.
In the main compartment goes my folding chidren's chair (2 of them if my son goes with), shooting sticks, and my survival fanny pack, which has the following:
Basic First aid kit
Coagulant Powder
Sawyer "Extractor" Snake bite kit
Paper Towels
Fire starting kit
2 space blankets
water tabs
spare ammo
compass
FRS/GMRS radio (works where cell phones won't)
map
50' parachute cord
emergency poncho (fancy name for a garbage bag)
2 small garbage bags
AA mini mag light
AA mini led light
leatherman multi-tool
Hanging on alice clips on the side of the pack is one or two (depending on how hot and dry it is) 1 qt canteens.
It's a lot, and it might be considered overkill, but I often get pretty far out on foot with my 12 year old. I want him to have the best possible chance if Dad goes down with a heart attack or some accident.
Since I always need the chair, this set up goes with me if it's one stand 150 yards from the truck, or a full day of walking.
I long for the days of just waling out with a rifle, couple of calls on a lanyard, and maybe a fanny pack and canteen. Since my back injury, that's not happening anymore however.
