How long has your Rock Chucker been pumping out rounds?

On a recent thread there was a comment that an RCBS Rock Chucker was the main reloading press while a higher end press sat unused.

I thought of my Rock Chucker that is at least 20 years old (gift from a friend when I first started reloading), that still works like a champ.

I'd like to hear about others who have been using the same press for a long time and seem to go back to it as the old standby.
 
I have had 3 that I passed on to others. The first one I bought in the mid seventies and sold it in 1996 to fund a new one. No doubt it still cranks out excellent ammo. Next one was a JR 2 I believe and I gifted it away to a newbie handloader on this site a few years back. Bought a RC Supreme before I ever got rid of it. So I didn't answer your question but I can say with great faith that the original RCJR is out there somewhere still working and has made tens of thousands of rounds of quality ammo thirty five plus years later..

I bought my RCBS Jr press in 1972 and my Rock Chucker in the early 80's. Both are still pumping out rounds with never so much as a hiccup.

I have no idea of how many rounds I've loaded on them but it has to be in the 10's of thousands. Loaded ammo for my Dad and 3 sons. They kept me busy.
 
I don't know how old mine is. I got it a bit over twenty years ago and it was used then. My first press was a Jr I got about 1968-69. Used it for 20 yrs before getting my Rockchucker. I bet that old Jr is still going.
 
I have not talked to anyone that has wore one out yet. I bought a RCBS jr back in 1976 that I'm still trying to wear out, no luck yet.
 
Bought mine new in 1973 with my income tax refund check. If I had a nickle for every time I cranked that handle I could buy me a new home for cash.

My widow may sell it some day, but I never will. It never has asked for anything over the years but the occasional drop of oil to keep it working smoothly. What more can you ask for?
 
mine is still an infant at 4yrs old

Mine started in the mid 70's and was so sloppy by the mid 90's I just use it
for decapping and swagging. Thought about tapping the bore with a nylon
screw to keep the ram handle from dropping but happier with the lock-n-load.
 
Early 90's on my RC. I started with a Lee Hand Press, which still works, then got the RC when I could "afford" it. No trouble with it, but I never did like the primer catch system. There are a lot of presses with better systems for that.

At 20 years it's starting to look like mine is still a baby.

Mine is is approximately 42 years old still in use and it is as tight as a bulls butt in fly time.

To the fella that says his is getting sloppy. Have you ever taken it apart and cleaned it and re lubed it. Ya got to do it once in a while if you want it to stay real tight. I take mine apart completely about every two years but do the ram at least twice a year and a drop or two of oil on the hinge pins about once a month.


I have two brand new ones that I picked up for a song and dance sitting on the shelf. I am a sucker for buying reloading equipment when I find it for less than 1/2 retail.
