How many rounds do you carry?

I forgot when I posted the question to post my own practice:

I'm about 50/50 on whether I take just a rifle, or a shotgun and rifle. Lately, I've been taking just a shotgun and letting my partner handle the rifle (usually my wife). Also working on getting some dogs with my bow, as well as trying to get some video dropping dogs with my Ruger Mark II pistol.

For the shotgun, I hold 6x 3.5", 7x 3", or 8 2.75" shells, plus 5 on the stock for 11-13 on the gun. I used to carry another 10-20rnds on a shotshell belt/bandolier, but now I have two 8rnd "slips" that slide down into AR mag pouches on my kit.

For rifle, I keep 20rnds in a 30rnd mag on the rifle, and another 20rnds in a 30rnd mag in my pouch. If I go through 40rnds of .223rem, either I was shooting like junk, or I have a lot of skinning to do.

I don't know that I've ever ran out of ammo unless I was just pitching long balls after a runner on a hope and a prayer.

I don't like taking time to restock at the truck (or rather I FORGET to restock), so I tend to just keep everything in my pack and carry it with me. I usually keep an extra full box of rifle and shotgun ammo in the truck all season, but I like to just keep my pack loaded with everything I need and only have to remember to take ONE THING, instead of loading a bunch of stuff, or forgetting something at home.

Thanks1 Jeff

i dont carry both guns anymore and very seldom do i have regrets, i have shotgun stands, and rifle stands, and trade off when hunting w/ a partner, 2mags for the ar, and 4 extra 3" #4 when toting the benelli.....

I guess it's just us Arizona boys that pack the heat. I never venture into the desert around here with less than 200 rounds for the AR. I don't carry TAP rounds like the Bushman, 69 gr SMK will stop both kinds of coyotes. About 20 rounds of #4 buck for the shotty.

With my AR a ten round mag full. With my 17rem bolt gun, 9 rounds (what the sleeve holds). With the pump shotgun 5 in the sleeve and 5 in the pack. In the combo gun 5 shotgun shells in the sleeve and 4 rifle 223's in the sling with the same amounts in the pack. Amount I've ever used around here in a day predator hunting, 2

I wasn't raised not bringing bullets if you're gonna bring 5 you might as well bring a box lol.

Never know what may happen always helps to be prepared.

I got the starting materials at walmart, then put my sewing machine to work (hobby leatherworker).

I took a walmart "shotshell belt" that holds 25rnds, then cut down the nylon belt to about the length of an AR mag, leaving a longer pull tab on one end, then folded the end of the elastic under itself and stitched it down.

When they're loaded with 8rnds, they're pretty stiff, but if I drew a couple rounds out, they'd get flimsy, so for version 2 I doubled the nylon of the belt back on itself and inserted two wide tongue depressers between the layers to keep them stiff. I'm out of town for the weekend for work, and our archery deer season opens monday, but I'll PM you some pics when I get back next week.

Shanedogg- If I was in the truck I would haul [beeep] outta there! You never know who or what you can stumble upon going to and from the stand. If I had to carry a 75lb bundle of weed across the desert for 3 day to keep the cartels from chopping my wifes head off I would do anything to take your truck. I expect nothing less from them.

I carry 4 or 5 rounds in the gun, depending on which caliber I'm carrying that day. And usually another 10 rounds in my pack. If I'm gonna be out a couple days, I'll throw in another 10-12 rounds just in case things get exciting. But I've never fired more than 8 or 9 rounds in a day of calling. Usually only 1 or 2 rounds a day.

I usually have a couple hundred rounds with me for the AR and about 20 for the shotgun and 3 mags for the 1911. Never know when I will get the desire to just do some shooting, especially if coyote hunting is slow and I get into some rabbits.

When I am on stand I have whatever is in the Pmag (top it off when it gets down to 5 rounds) and 3 in the shotgun.

I've always carried 4 in the magazine.
When I got on stand, I loaded an additonal one, in the chamber, to equal 5.
That left me 8 in the butt stock holder.
Now, back in the days when i would make several stands in a 3K+ acre area, I also would bring along an additional 20 rounds, in my pack.

Depends where I am calling. If I am calling my usual spots I carry 5 rounds in my bolt gun or 7 in my ARs (modified 5 round mags). If I call down on the border always carry My AR with a 20 round mag and additional 30 round for just in case.
