How many shoot or hunt with a muzzle brake?

One rifle equipped with a brake,338 win mag, a TC venture. That one was knocking me around, had a custom brake installed. I have two suppressors waiting, 3 barrels being threaded, I have thought about a generic 224 brake for when not suppressed.

Only one barrel that I own does not have a muzzle break. Several have tuner-brakes.

Some brakes are more effective than others and some are louder than others.

I worked with one tactical side discharge brake, my ears are still ringing from that brake and I was wearing ear muffs!

I had a custom 257 Weatherby with a Williams muzzle break, and could watch the water vapor fly off the deer, see the bullet hit beyond the deer at bullet impact! Williams makes some very effective muzzle breaks but they are not cheap.

Ackleyman,

that 257 Weatherby Magnum is one fine cartridge!

I know being able to watch that watch that water vapor was a cool sight for sure!

I shot a 243 White Express for years, a 29 pound rifle that I carried on missions overseas during and after Desert Storm. I'll post a couple of pictures of it tomorrow if I think about it. The weight and balance of it kept recoil to a minimum, even though it doesn'thave a muzzle brake on it. I watched bullets impact their target out past 1,000 yards, and it was a fun gun to carry and to shoot...

amen to that. i hoped i was far enough out to have it bounce off the outside of the box.... my magwell was almost at the window so i had around 16" of tube outside of the blind... nope.. didnt help much at all

I have considered doing the same thing, but the recoil reduction is so much better with a muzzle brake.

i find a can reduces the recoil much better than a brake.

Then you're not using an effective brake.
Just my opinion. My Christensen arms brake reduces recoil far greater than with my SAS 338 can on my 7mm rem mag.

Speaking of muzzle breaks, aside from 1A who has a break on everything including his Red Rider, has anyone ever put one on a muzzle loader? Did it work if you did? Curious again.
