That's a leading question, I know, so fire away.

Here's the thing though.

I was listening to FNC this morning on the XM radio and heard the nominations for the Oscars.

I only recognized three names!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

George Cluney, the actor. I've seen him in a couple of movies, I think, though I can't picture his face.

Steven Spielberg, the director. I'm sure I've seen more than one of his movies, though ET is the only one I can name offhand (Jaws?).

Brokeback Mountain, the movie. I've heard controversy about it on the news cause it's apparently about queer cowboys. I haven't seen it and don't plan to. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

I had never heard of any of the other actors, actresses, movies, or directors. I know of Truman Capote, the author, and would assume that the movie Capote would be about him, but I had never heard of it till now.

I do watch DVDs, though I generally wait till they are selling for $9.95 (or less) to buy them. Am I really so out of touch with mainstream American culture?

I think it comes with age. I don't recognize names or faces of actors, musicians, sports figures, etc. Come to think of it, I don't recognize my own neighbors either.
 
Comes with age???? Man I hope not cause I am going to be way behind by the time I hit my 30's. I think it has to do with priorities and what is important to you. I for one can't name actors/actresses, can't tell you the last american idol was etc. It is just not worth my time. I don't know who is staring on Homo on the Range either, but I can tell you all about new hunting products, who Wayne carlton is, I could recognize Ed sceery, etc, You get my drift.
 
If I watch tv, I watch the outdoor channel, I know who Hank Parker, Jimmy Houston, Keith Waren and Jim Zumbo are. I don't give a crap about pop culture or modern music. I like my world and so do the voices in my head. Thats our story and were sticking to it.
 
I live in a box. I know my family, close friends and coyotes. I have no clue about the rest of the world. I watch 10 minutes of news every evening ( the weather) and spend an hour a day on PM.

They are taking over and they are winning. With Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Runway (Reality clothing designer program) and others my 15 year and 8 year old daughters love them, the more flaming the better. We are comming to a different world reality, thats for sure.

Of course real man shows like Orange County Choppers where an out of control father does little else other than scream at his kid and workers doesn't help the "real man" cause either! I know most of us aren't really like that but they show the gay men as being all fun and play. That's just asd false, but it sells.
 
I think that it is because there are so many of them that come and go. Back in the day, we had a couple of dozen that were in all the movies! But we only had a dozen movies release each year. Hell, now they release a dozen a month and you need two gay stars in each movie or it doesn’t get any support from the actors guild. So that is 24 stars a month and it takes them at least 6 months of work on a 3 hour movie to make their 2 million dollars, so now you are up to a couple of hundred stars required just to keep the movie business going.

It seems to me that American popular culture has become a wonderful thing to be out of touch with. For the most part, you're better off without it.
 
I'm so sick of that tolerance crap they want to shove down our throats, who cares who the actors are! Sick of award shows too,for that matter. Used to be some tastless jokes about sheep ranchers. With all those sheep, these guys could'nt leave eachother alone? Worse yet someone thinks we need to see it?? They should burn the studio to the ground!!

Same hear but in the winter I spend more than an hour on PM /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
Nasa, yep, its about sheepherders, and no I NEVER watched it and never will. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hell, I never seen Titanic the movie and I herd on the news the other day 90% of the u.s. population watched it.
 
If Clint Eastwood or Chuck Norris is not in the movie, I dont watch it !

Unless its Southpark or the Simpsons!

Last time I paid attention to actors was when Fess Parker was Davy Crockett, that shows you how far I'm behind /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. I couldn't care less about the rest of 'em.
 
I think that sooner or later we all pick a time where we want to be.

I can't tell a Pontiac from a Toyota anymore without looking at the label. But I can tell the difference between a '55 and '56 Ford 200 yards away.

I don't know M&M or Snoop Dog from Hillary Clinton (Oops, bad example) and don't care. But I can tell you what song Waylon, Willie, George Jones, etc. is singing just from the few lead in notes.

Movies the same way. I dam near know the lines from all of Clint's spaghetti westerns, Dirty Harry, James Bond (Connery & Moore), etc.

Its somewhat similar to that old lady that has shared her house with me for 34 years, she isn't a new model but I'm still sticking with it.

Leon --- To stay current you have to get out of that cab once and a while. And when you do get you just can't go shooting all the time.

guess I am in good company here, cause I am at least as far out of touch for this as the rest of you, probably more so. Don't much care either. As far as I am concerned, those people live in a far different world than I do.
