How tight should Tikka t3 deluxe wood stock recoil lug fit?

This is a new gun just (old stock) manufactured in 2007. I had a t3 lite 25-06 at one time in synthetic and it was a bear to get the barreled action out of the stock and back in. It seemed to be because of the recoil lug to stock fit. With this new t3 Deluxe model 270 win. in wood stock the recoil lug just falls out and, the barreled action just lifts out of the stock unlike, the t3 lite synthetic stock. Is this normal or should I bed the lug into the stock? Also, this is an upgraded precision steel lug I ordered instead of the factory aluminum lug but, they both fall out. All help would be greatly appreciated as I haven't even shot it yet. Thanks!

I too have the T-3 with the laminate stock in 243, the recoil lug on mine has plenty of "Play" as well, even shows where the barrel notch has been hammering it (Aluminum)
If I loosen the action screws you can slide it back and fourth about a 1/8 inch

I thought I had heard not to bed the lug in, but have to confess to bedding around the lug (still removable) and that seems to have helped

Where did you get the steel lug?

Trying to formulate an answer to a "problem" that does not yet exist is a pretty hard thing to do. Whatever conclusion is drawn, can only be mere specualtion, at best.

In other words: Shoot the damm gun. Then talk.......

I would say mine shot “OK”, met its 1moa guarantee, then I changed too many variables at or around the same time, new scope (Higher magnification) annealed my brass (Neck tension was not consistent) started shooting lighter bullets and different powder…now my last 3 groups (3 shot) measured ¼…½…½

My advice would be just put it back together torque the screws to 40 inch pounds while holding the action back while tightening and just shoot it and see how it does….I’m betting it will be fine

Began to scope in the Tikka today at 50yds. and stopped after 7 rounds when I noticed my scope was slipping through the Tikka rings darn it.
