How to beat back the skeeters ??

Hmm.. guess they are already out and about in Alabama.

Well I always had good luck with a light smoking from burning some green branches the day before and smoking my hunting clothes with it. Didn't seem to bother the most of the animals I was after. Not 100% effective but it was better than nothing.

Thermacell all the way. I try to wear the bare minimum as far as clothes go when I go out in hot/humid weather. I have found that the thermacell works for spring turkey, early deer or just about anytime the skeeters get bad, which is all the time down here in florida. Go ahead and invest in one. Hope this helps, David

I use Sawyers brand repellent with permethrine. The carrier is the repellent, and the permethrine is a killer. This is for clothing only. It WILL keep the ticks off ya'.

For the body I buy the highest DEET percentage bug spray (Off, for example) I can find. When it's really bad out, I soak a bandana with it and tie it around my neck.

Keep swattin',

I tried some of the Buzz Off clothing last June while on a fishing trip to Alaska. It worked pretty good, they still buzz you but the biting is cut down. We fished for seven days on the Alagnak and I only had to put insect repellent on one day. It is offered in light weight hooded versions in subdued colors by various companies. The cloth is impregnated with a derivative of a chrysanthemum and is supposed to have a life of 25 washings. I still have 24 to go.

Thermacell without a doubt! I used one last fall during archery season and they work like a charm. As far as those who will say "but the deer will smell them" I harvested two bucks and a doe while using them, and had countless other deer right under my stands on numerous occasions. I know they do put off some scent but I'd rather take a chance than fighting the skeeters. Cabela's and Bass Pro are the same as the one I bought on Ebay, but you might get a better deal on Ebay.

I seen these at cabelas and thought that would be the way to go to keep the darn ticks out of me. I can handle snakes skunks, bears etc. but I do not like TICKS! Should work on skeeters also. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Yep, the TICKS are out here in Montana /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Gotta just love those things. IHATETICKS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

We don't get skeeters here till the end of june most years. Then all I worry about is not getting skeeter dope on my flyline. But the ticks are out now, spray your pant legs with skeeter dope that helps.......

Thermacell for the skeeters and "No Stink'in Ticks" for the ticks... I am going on three years without a bite from a skeeter! Ticks are another story... ya gotta spray EVERYWHERE outside your clothing even your hats, gloves, and facemask! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I just stopped worrying about the skeeters and ticks after last year. I had a Mormon cricket crawl up my back under my shirt and it still creeps me out. Pretty much blew that stand. I know they won't hurt you but gawd those things are nasty.

Another vote for the Thermacell. The holster is nice too. You can get at Wallyworld or hardware / sporting goods store around here.

Thermacell work for ticks, too? Bad, bad year for them. Seemed like I picked more than a hundred off my pants this afternoon, sometimes five or ten at a time from brushing up against a single clump of grass.
