I have not tried this Thermacell stuff, but the bugs up here in Alaska will pick you up and carry you off sometimes. My current record is 36 mosquitoes killed with one whack on my leg once. I try to keep the 100% DEET to a minimal use, but when they're thick the BENS 100 and Muskol 100 is the go to skeeter repeller. Have you checked out a company called the Bug Shirt? They offer a bug jacket with a mesh hood that comes in Natural Gear camo??? It's slick and works like a champ. You could see through the mesh on a scope so it might be the way to go in terms of cutting down your scent. Just wear some really thin gloves and you'd be all set without any DEET or chemicals at all. The Bug Shirt is perfect for Hot days too as it's mesh in the underarms and has a couple pockets.
