Howa 1500 Build

So I've been in the process of putting together a 22-250 since last december for a calling rifle and just finished it today.

So here is the parts list
Howa 1500 22-250 barreled action in Kryptek I found for $300 new

Richards Microfit cascade classic with the 2 1/8" varmint forend

Leupold VX 4-12x40
Leupold rings and bases

Scorehigh howa 1500 pillar bedding kit with pro-bed 2000 bedding compound

Lots of sandpaper steel wool and formby's tung oil

Here is how much wood I had to take out to put the rear pillar in, this a problem that occurs with howa's going to larger pillars. I was able to stick some gun case foam in the inlet and create a [beeep] for the expoy.

Here is the bedding after initially free the action out of the bedding. There are still pieces of model clay left around the magazine well. I overfilled with bedding compound and dremel/ file fit the magazine well back in to eliminate rattle, this route seemed easier then trying to bed the action with the magazine well in place as others do.

Initial refit of the action and all its parts.

First coat of formby's tung oil this is the darkest I've ever seen it come out. Color largely depends on the wood. I generally spend a whole day hand rubbing the oil in to build a good base layer and then add a coat every 12 hours before and after work till I get the sheen I want depending on the firearm and its use.

So a quick run down of richards microfit stocks. If you have a dremel wood chisels, sand paper and a couple weekends you can get a very good fit and finish with them. They are not drop in and are rough cut on cnc machines, so there are lots of scratches you need to sand out. You also need to adjust the lines of the stocks to flow with the metal and make clearances for moving parts. The most I had to take off this stock was a 1/4 inch of the front peak of the comb so the bolt would not ding the wood during manipulation.

Anyway hopefully I get to shoot it and post some pictures of groups soon.
