Is that Ranchland or Ranchhand...? Oh well I'm thinking of picking up one of these packages from legacy arms in 204 or 223....Does anyone have one....This rig only has a 20 inch barrel..Is that a handicap? It comes with a Nikko Scope...Its a Japanese scope....I hear the quality is top notch, but I'm not so sure....Does anyone have one of these rigs? What do you think of it? I can get a full size Howa 1500 package for a few dollars more....That rifle would have a 22 inch barrel....Is that the way to go?

Its hard to go wrong with a Howa. I have owned three and they were top notch. My neighbor also owns one as well and him and his son love it.

I have one in 223 with the coyote sand special stock. The action is heavy, but it is sturdy, and slick. The weight distribution makes it not to bad for carrying. They are pretty accurate, and you can make the triggers be awesome. For coyote hunting this is not much of a disadvantage, but they have relatively short throats and a 1:12 twist rate in 223, so you won't be able to shoot over about 60gr bullets(I haven't actually tried heavier, just speculating). All in all it is one of the last guns I would sell.

i have 1500 in .243 after fixing the paint job the guy did begore and putting stock on it that actualy fit. i love mine and it is tack driver. thinking of leaving the .308 home next deer season and using it.

looking through catalog yest. too and i wouldnt be afraid of the savage 4x4 same kind of set up comes in only 204 from our dist. that is. prob just little higher but u can never go wrong with a indian head in my book.

The compact also has a thinnner barrel and I think you should get the full size, The glass isnt bad, But I got a Nikon to replace it coming for christmas.
mine is very accurate with most factory ammo excluding remington.

Nikko may be japanese but the scopes on those rifles come from China

My buddy has one in 223 and another buddy has the 204

they are minute of coyote and maybe with a little work they will do better

one thing about them is they are short and handy

From what I understand, Howa manufactures the action that Weatherby uses on the Vanguard. So that says to me that Howa is quality. I personally dont own one yet, but plan to soon. Probably in 22-250

Luke I had a Howa in 22-250 with a heavy barrel and the thunbhole stock. In a moment of weakness I sold it off. Man that was a sweet rifle and I miss it alot. I hope I never do something that stupid again LOL.
