HPA language in the big, beautiful bill has been gutted

I don't know how many of you have been following this in recent days, but it appears as if a suppressor company has been lobbying the House ways and means committee to abandon language that would remove suppressors from the NFA and instead simply drop the tax to 0. The tax on form 1 would remain $200. That's what the House bill shows at this time as it came out of that committee. So our Repubs sold us out, using the excuse that full removal would require 60 votes in the Senate to overcome the filibuster, while a simple tax reduction would not. There seems to be some debate on that.

Of course there is still time, and the pressure from gun owners has been intense on the phones and online.

It's back to the drawing board on the bill, the budget committee rejected it, partly due to the hpa. I have a feeling we might win this one after all. Time will tell.

There is good on both sides. Removing suppressors from NFA will make them easier to get, both paperwork and price wise. However, keeping them on the NFA will keep the language that suppressors are firearms and not accessories...... the thing about registries is this, if you've bought a firearm in the last 20 years, they probably know......

I don't dispute the last statement, I simply like the idea of being able to impulse buy one and take it home and use it. The idea that they need new fingerprints and photos each and every time is a huge waste of everyone's time and energy.

in my opinion, the regulations on suppressors are there for the government to make money and maintain some sort of control over what we are able to purchase firearm wise.

a suppressor is a metal tube, incapable of any harm unless you really get close and throw it at someone. by itself its harmless, cant kill anything.

they make us wait months, fill out all kinds of papers, photos, fingerprints for what ? a useless metal tube. the HPA needs to pass

the ATF does the same check on us that our local gun shop does.

If suppressors are removed from the NFA, you most def will see a price decrease after awhile.

Greed will keep the price up. Why would companies lower the price? If they were going to do it, they would do it now.

There will be more companies entering the market with new designs, materials(because sales will be easier/less time/labor). Crossover units from air rifle companies, especially for rimfire. More companies, more units/choices can result in lower prices.

I'm guessing there would no longer be a need for companies to have an FFL07 license to manufacture them either.
