HSM 20 TAC ammo

About 1 1/2 years ago I purchased HSM 20 TAC ammunition with the Berger 35gr. hollow point bullet while it was available. I wanted to inquire if any members here had used it and if so how did you find the accuracy. Mine seems to vary, groups seem to be just under 3/4" at 100 yards. However, at longer range it really seems to be closer to moa. This is a D-Tech upper and it wears a Leupold VX-R patrol rifle optic in a Leupold one piece mount. I've yet to handload for it but I do have the dies, etc. Thanks.

I use it with a 12 twist Cooper M21 (wears a vx3 4.5-14x50) and the velocity has been very consistent. Accuracy has also been much better than MOA (closer to 1/2) out to 300 yards. I really don't use it for much (except to get the brass after I'm done with some general shooting), as I prefer to use the 39gr Sierra BK. Still it is great ammo at a great price when you can find it. MidwayUSA use to carry it on a consistent basis but seem to have stopped. I think I even have a few boxes tucked away that I have yet to open.

Erik,
Thanks for your response. That is what I wanted to know. HSM is well respected, I think it should shoot better than it has overall. At times it's quite good, other times it's not.

You do realize no matter what it is at 100 yards it is going to open up and slowly get bigger the farther out the target is. When speaking about groups and grouping.
So when you say longer range its opening up roughly 1/4" more....what is the longer range we are talking about?

Bobtails,
I only check my zero out to 200 yards. I simply don't shoot farther than that while hunting, especially at night. Most of my varmint guns have had minor gunsmithing done, such as crowns recut, bedding, etc. Most will shoot 1/2 MOA or darn close consistently. The 20 TAC hasn't done this consistently yet. I don't think I would shoot it at game at 200 yards. It simply doesn't group that tight. I'm betting it's the ammunition and not the D-Tech itself. Mike's firearms have a very good reputation from everything I've read about them.

I have a Dtech so I know and I had a dtech in a 20 Tac. So I realize. I shot HSM ammo in mine. It shot around 1/2" at 100. I think the 3/4" your seeing at 200 ( of I understand you right ) it's fine for it to do that with a factory ammo at 200 yards. Your not gonna get better unless you hand load and even then it's not a 100% you'll get better.
