Hunter kills 5 people in Wisconsin?

He gunned down unarmed people in cold blood. Deer hunter my @ss. I feel terrible for the familys displaced by this. Unfortunatly Wisconson has no death penalty. So he will serve maybe 7 years and then continue to live off the taxpayers.

Not trying to start anything here , however I have to disagree with you on wisconsin canceling the season. while this is a terrable thing that happened, and my prayers are with the family's of all envolved I don't understand you're thinking on closing the season. wisconsin hunters have taken a bad hit in the last couple years with the CWD and all. license sales are way down the dnr is hurting on their budget and there are way less wardens out. to stop the season would discurage hunters from ever hunting again, if this horrable incedent in itself don't already do that. there is nothing good going to come from this, the anti's have more fuel, family's are hurting a hurt beyond words and those of us that like to use "assult weapons" feel the worst is that much closer.
it is a black day for all.

A "black day for us "we"," from the posts I read" have suffered a Black eye." My God please forgive us our selfishness, this has nothing to do with hunting. Let us not fall into the media trap of accepting this behavior into hunting. This guy was a wack job, it could of been a McDonalds or anywhere. This event has nothing to do with hunting or hunters. It is an out right MURDER. a criminal commiting a crime. I am sick, those poor people, out with the family, enjoying life, now, dead or remembering.
It is not different than if they had been to a movie, let us not allow the media to tie it to hunting.
I am waiting for the media to tie it to Viet Nam, he was "acting out aggression" to the american intruders. Sometimes I am not sure who is sicker, our courts or the people who read and beleive the media.
geeez, how can even a sick reporter relate this wacko, to a family weekend together.
Carl

It is a true shame; a waste of human life always makes me sick. What was the shooter thinking? How could he justify shooting people like this on a slight misunderstanding or altercation? How does hunting or trespassing equate to 6 deaths?
Pray for the victims and the shooters souls.
Peace,
Dave

Has anyone given thought that this nut was an animal rights activist? I would bet he was, he most likely was targeting hunters as we target the deer. Hate to say it but wish somebody would have clobbered him! All this will do is raise questions but I feel they really need to check his background, I would bet he belongs to some kind of Sierra Club Tree hugging group.

Just my opinion. It really pisses me off that he did this! Just going to hurt us further.

Oh ya why did they say he was a hunter? Should not have done that! They should have said a madman. Just because he may have had a license does not mean he was actually hunting, could have been a scam all the way. Just to give us good law abiding folks and real hunter a bad name!!!

Just as a few people have already said this guy was not a hunter. He was a maniac with a rifle. Its an insult to all of us that they are saying he was a hunter.
If he goes to prison for life he's going to wish Wisconsin had a death penalty after the other cons get done with him.
The people who will need your prayers right now are the victims families.God Bless them in their time of grief.daveyboy

according to sources, this guy is a Hmong. Where these people lived in Laos life was very different.

There is no Game & Fish in the jungle, no game limits, or unlawful taking methods. Perhaps where this dude grew up it was common to hose down fellow hunters???

Whatever the case, the justice system needs to make an example of this guy.

I agree, this is America, and you live by our laws and support this country,if not stay out. It's gotten to the point that the PC crowd has done everything they can to make immigrants feel at home.Well this isnt there home, this is America, the place you came to get away from home.If I went to India, and got hungry for a steak, and decided to whack a cow, what do you think would happen.I dont think they'd say oh he's from America,it's okay.Or go to Iran and start pushing your American views, they'd probably shoot ya and toss you in a hole.
It's time we stop coddling these people and have them get with the program or go home.

The death toll is now 6 as one of the survivors died.

Elkoholic, we could only hope that this wacko was a member of some bunny hugger group. I think it would change the medias slant a little bit.

Ohiodave, I'll pray for the victims and their families. The shooter....well, God's gonna have to sort that one out.

Hello cracker,

That was my point exactly. We're all going to end up unjustifyably taking a hit over this. It's to Wisconsin's credit they didn't close the season. My home state is Maryland which is pretty much anti-hunting to begin with. I think they would have cancelled it in a heartbeat. The rifle used is not my idea of the ideal hunting rifle either, but I guess it's legal. There's been additional stories today saying the shooter is an immigrant from Laos in Asia where apparently they don't share our view of private property rights. We don't really know yet what was said or transpired betwen those involved, but that doesn't lessen the tragedy. Best wishes.

just an additional note on people who don't share or respect laws concerning private property or game laws - in some areas of NY we have "menenites" (pardon the spelling), who at time conduct what they call substance hunting. Regardless of the season.

The point is yes, 6 people are dead because this guy gunned them down. Not just shot at them, went out of his way to kill them.

Well this thing is all ready getting turned around. The local paper here in ST. Paul is stating that this Vang said that he was called racial names and that they shot first. I dont think so. They only had one gun in the group that was trying to assist the wounded. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I hate to say this but this only fuels my thoughts of these people. They do not respect live or laws as we do and they are really good at playing dumb when they get cought. Its everyone elses fault not mine i no under stand.

Sorry this thing just pisjkfhbsfd me off.

Just watched the local news.Authorities are investigating a 2001 shooting in clark county where a hunter was shot in the back.

Sunday's shooting has similarities to a 2001 killing 80 miles away

Law enforcement agencies are investigating if the man suspected of killing six deer hunters and injuring two others was involved in the unsolved slaying of a deer hunter three years ago in a nearby Wisconsin county, a detective said Tuesday.
Jim Southworth was found shot to death on Nov. 23, 2001, as he hunted on family land 10 miles east of Neillsville in Clark County.

Clark County Sheriff's Department Detective Kerry Kirn said he has exchanged frequent calls with investigators in Sawyer County since Monday morning.

"I can tell you we have been in contact with authorities from Sawyer County to address that," Kirn said. "It is premature to speculate if there is a connection."

On Nov. 23, 2001, Jim Southworth was shot to death as he hunted on family land 10 miles east of Neillsville in one of the only other homicides ever to be linked to Wisconsin's deer hunting season.

Southworth was shot twice in the back and both bullets exited his chest, an autopsy found.

Witnesses reported a pickup truck with three men inside on a road near where Southworth's body was found, about 80 miles south of Sunday's shooting.

The three men were described as Asian from 5-foot-4-inches to 6-feet. They were driving a silver or gray Nissan or Chevrolet pickup truck, possibly a late 1980s model with a light-colored fiberglass topper.

Chai Soua Vang, 36, of St. Paul, Minn., who is suspected of shooting eight hunters Sunday, is 5-foot-4-inches, according to a court document. Vang has owned a 1987 Nissan pickup, according to an online search service. According to court records, Vang allegedly shot several of Sunday's victims in the back.

The Sawyer County rampage was allegedly sparked by a dispute over Vang using a deer stand on private property. One of the theories Clark County authorities have been pursuing is that Southworth was shot after confronting a trespasser.

Officials said that Vang was hunting with two other people on Sunday, before he became lost and wandered onto the private property. Police are looking for those other people.

Vang did have an out-of-state license to hunt in Wisconsin in 2001, said Mike Bartz, a Department of Natural Resources warden manager. He also had a license in 2000, 2002 and this year, he said.

Kirn called the three people being sought in Southworth's murder "persons of interest."

"To our knowledge, those are the only three people who we haven't identified who were in that area that day," Kirn said.

Kirn said he could not comment on whether Vang has been or will be questioned in the Southworth case. Investigators from the state Department of Justice are investigating both cases, he said.

"They need to do their investigation and when all facts come out, and they will relay that to me, and we'll make the comparison," Kirn said.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Department, the first to respond to Sunday's shooting, referred questions to the Department of Justice. A spokesman there declined to comment on whether a connection was being investigated between the two cases.

Told of the two cases, a retired FBI agent said his experience tells him that they could very well be related.

"The odds of the two being unrelated are astronomical, I would say," said Bob Dwyer, who now works as a private investigator in Florida.

But an absence of physical evidence in the 2001 case could make it difficult to prove such a connection, Dwyer said. The best way to tie two crimes together is to match weapons or bullets, he said.

Kirn declined to comment on what kind of gun was used to kill Southworth or if they recovered bullets in the woods where he was shot. A warden said last year that investigators were looking for casings.

The hunting rifle Southworth was carrying - a Ruger model 77 bolt action .03-06-caliber - was missing.

Whats wrong with the way the Officer wrote it? Thats how Officers are trained to write in the academy. It takes the confusion out of who said what. One less thing for Vang's scumbag defense attorney to argue.
