Hunting around Whitewater State Park, MN?

Me and some buddies are planning a couple long weekend trips to do some bow hunting in the state forest(the one with the really long name) and the WMA that is down there also.

My question is that when I look through a lot of the 1.16 million acres of what is marked as state forest on the MNDNR website there are farms and roads everywhere. I've just spent some time on google earth to see what things look like and maybe find a spot to hunt. How much of this area can we hunt?

hey, not sure if you've already headed out hunting or not but I thought I would try to help. I am not sure about the state forest but the Whitewater wma is over 10,000 acres by itself. It is cut up by farms in some areas but the minnesota hunters atlas shows boundaries well and it is also well posted. It gets a fair amount of pressure but if you are willing to do some walking to get away from the roads there is good hunting there. I have taken a few nice buck out of there in the past. If in doubt on an area try asking at the gas station in Elba. He is a deer registration station and usually has a pretty good idea of what is going on in the area. There is also alot of land open to public hunting along the Mississippi but most of it is pretty swampy. Also don't overlook some of the smaller chunks of state ground in the area.
