Hunting boots

Okay fellas, I need some input on boots for desert coyote calling and mule deer hunting, as wells as early fall hunting and spring turkey. There's not a sporting goods store that stocks what I'm looking for, and my two attempts to order from a catalog without seeing the boots first have resulted in returned merchandise with me paying the shipping. So I have come here for some advice and hopefully some first-hand experience.

Here are my basic requirements:
1. Uninsulated (got some nice Brownings that only get worn once a year)
2. Waterproof (it never rains here, but I spent my entire hog hunts in Texas and California with wet feet - sucked)
3. 7+" tall (I like the ankle support in rocky terrain)
4. Tough (think rocks, cacti, etc.)
5. Relatively inexpensive (

My hunting boots are Danners, but it kills me to spend that kind of money, so when I needed a pair of general purpose boots, I looked around, and wound up at JC Penny, bought a pair of Wolverines for about a hundred dollars. Lug sole, urethane, full leather uppers, choice of color and height. I actually didn't expect much, but these are servicable boots, I believe you would get your money's worth. I'd buy another pair, which is a good recommendation. I used to buy Rocky Cornstalkers, but the price of them (lately) is more than I want to pay for casual chores.

Good hunting. LB

Thanks Leonard, that sounds pretty good. I'll bet the boss wouldn't mind tagging along if I went to JCPenny! We usually go for her, so I figure I could sneak a new pair of boots in with her clothes, right? It's only fair

Thanks for the input, anybody else??

Try the Rocky outbacks? I've wanted some for a long time. Just haven't ordered any. A friend had some and loved them.

I like the caterpillers in lightwieght without steel toes. I find the 5" shank very supportive. I broke my ankle and tore all the tendons in my left foot 18 months ago. Been wearing the cats ever since I could get a boot back on. They are very comfortable.

I have owned several pairs of Rocky Outbacks and loved them dearly. Mine were all made in the USA. Unfortunately I understand that now all Rocky Boots are made in China, and that the quality has gone right downhill.

I'm wearing a pair of rocky outbacks right now, getting ready to go on a 2 mile hike to start breaking them in. they feel good.
