I need osme advice on hunting coyotes where my stands will be close to my ATV.There's not much I can do about the noise but what about the smell and the sight of the ATV? What can I do to get around that? I'm not able to walk much and that's why I use the ATV.I also have "handicapped hunting" privleges.....I'm sure some of you folks can give me some help....
I do have Foxpro and have killed some coyotes..but have not tried it with a 4 wheeler.
A coyote killed our little Papillon yesterday morning and they need to be thinned out around here.
best

I hunt off my ATV all the time. I park it a couple hundered yards from where I call and try to hide it as best I can. As far as the smell, I don't do anything, other than try to set up so I see them before they catch my wind.

I hunt off my ATV quite often and have many times stayed within a few feet of it. As for the noise they make mufflers that silence most all exhaust noise. I'd not worry about the smell and sight of the quad. You do what you can and hope for the best.

All the same rules that apply to your truck apply to your ATV. I hunt off mine sometimes, and when I do I'm reminded that Idaho is friggin' COLD!!.

Sorry to hear about your dog /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.........sounds like you need some good o'l REVENGE! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Knock-em-Down!!

All my Hunts are off of an ATV. Infact I would rather use the ATV than a vehicle I can hide it much easier and in places that a vehicle would stick out like a sore thumb.
I have ridden up to a spot and walked maybe ten to fifteen yards and called a Coyote in at a minute and a half and this is without any special muffler on my ATV.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I have been searching for a good way to hide my Polaris Ranger out here in the flat land! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and have been looking at the camo netting found at your local Army Surplus. You can pick up a net that would more than cover an ATV for less than $40. Just roll it up and store it on the rack, un-roll and cover the ATV once you get where you want to set up.

Good luck,

Use the terrain to best hide your ATV. A small ditch, depression, wash, mound, etc... We've made plenty of stands where the 4 wheeler was only 40 yards away and a few stands where the coyotes ran right past the 4 wheelers to get to the call.

The camo or burlap cover idea is a good one. I have a army tank cover that I use on my entire vehicle, in places that I can't use terrain to cover it. It fooled quite a few coyotes this season.

Good luck and get that dog killer. Your Papillon was beautiful...a perfect butterfly head. Sorry to hear about your loss.

I've used my XR100 as a backrest before, but usually call only a few yards from it. Critters don't seem to be bothered by it...most don't even seem to notice it. If they do they are usually already in my scope.

I have a friend that has killed a coyote or two while on an ATV. He made a good shoot each time and never even fired a round. The only thing was the tire marks left on the hide.

Sorry about your Dog. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
If your able, hunt over the spot your dog was taken. That would be where I'd start.
They will come back and you might get the exact one that took your dog.
Good hunting,
Mike

I hunt from a Polaris Ranger almost exclusively. I try to park it so the sun doesn't reflect off the windshield. I do try to park at least 50 yds from my calling spot depending on the cover I can hide it in. Here in AR there are lots of places to hide it.

Hi Guys,

Kind of on the same topic... I was wondering if anyone here hunts from a snow mobile?

I've been thinking about getting one as it would open up a ton of areas for me to hunt in the winter. One very big concern I have though is the smell from the two-stroke motor. I can smell a snow mobile a mile away, so don't imagine a coyote is going to have any trouble. Even if I keep the snow mobile far enough away from the stand, I'm concerned about the smell sticking to my clothes.

Does anyone on here hunt from a two-stroke?
Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Wib

Sorry to hear about your dog, same thing happen to me about 1 year ago and that is what got me hunting these yotes. So far them 1 and me I am at 50,I think I am going to call 1 to 600 even. Your atv will work just watch the wind and give it 10-15 min before you start calling. Good luck and kill them alllll.

Thanks to ALL for your replys, tips and encouragement....I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
My wife has a lightweight AR that I built up for her and I think I'll get my Swift dialed in...
best regards
