Hunting coyotes with dogs and truck???

emerald, that was 3-4k. read this as 3000-4000. i think this is adequate size to cast from. many yotes won't make it off this much land, but then you have runners and cold trails with late jumps. just clarification since i must not have posted clearly.

No I don't actually shoot them, use them to threaten the idiot to know I mean business. Its not the dogs fault so I can't blame the animal, just the idiot behind the wheel. Alot of dog hunters out here have bad reputations so if you see one you might as well expect 4 more. We have tried to let them hunt like that but always ended up with fields tore up and fences broke. I had them come screaming through my yard one time, that was all it took.
 
Im a still hunter and houndsman run coon hog a bear. I use short range dogs for hunting "MTN Curs" run alot of small properties and large but from time to time I have a race where they just dont want to tree or bay up for me. and it will pass properties. But here if it goes into another property you have the right to go on to get your dog without permission as long as the gun is left off the property. Have never realy hd any proplems myself. Me myself will not or try not to hunt where I know there others still hunting or so. Usely wait till after deer season to do most my hog hunting. Out of respect for other hunters.
But to hate or dislike another form of hunting or say its not respectfull or not real hunting, or even just cause ?????. Is just wrong. HUNTING is HUNTING witch ever way you like it. Both ways still hunting or doggin, they both take time and work. Some folks get a rush out of seeing a yote come in to you on a call some get the rush from hearing a chase going on.
Must not fight or put other ways down because you think your way is the best or only way. Never hurts to talk with the folks if there dogs are running you property. but of course you have the respectful type and you still have those rotten apple hunters. I hunt the mountains alot have been way up and back in there before to have a dog come threw were Im at but I dont get mad or upset, the dog is doing his job too HUNTING. I left many times to walk a dog off the MTN and call the number on his collar, just to help a dog hunter out. I know how frustrating it is when one gos stray or just wont come back. So I give a helping hand.
But to say seeing dogs as a TARGET is not a good thing. I see my dogs as family, and have a couple that live inside. And will protect them to a very high level

I found this in the Hunting Regulations online a bit ago.

PERMISSION FROM LANDOWNER
Hunters and trappers must obtain permission
from the landowner or tenant before
entering his land regardless of
whether or not the land is fenced or posted.
It is unlawful to trap or hunt, or intentionally
or wantonly allow a dog to hunt, within or
upon the land of another, or upon waters
flowing over or standing on the land of another,
without first obtaining permission
from the owner or tenant.
Public hunting areas managed by the
Department of Natural Resources have restricted
access. Refer to site-specific regulations
for further details (pages 32-40).
NOTE: Railroad rights-of-way are private
property and you need permission from
the owner before hunting or trapping.
Illinois law does not grant the right of
trespass for the purpose of retrieving
wounded or crippled wildlife or hunting
dogs. You must secure permission from
the landowner or tenant before entering
any property. Remember, your conduct
while hunting and trapping can influence
the landowner’s decision to let you or
other sportsmen hunt or trap in the future.

So I would say they are trespassing.

Please re-read the post. I says 3 - 4 K (as in thousand) acre plots. Pretty good sized chunk of land.
 
Here in NY Dogs running game on posted property is legal and the dogs are not considered "at large".It IS ilegal to put your dogs on a track on posted property.I've hunted w/ dogs all my life and I can tell you they will do what they're bred to do,Run game.The Game can't read signs and neither can the dogs.There is no intended ill will twords anyone just some guys hunting the way they prefer to hunt.
It would a nicer country if people weren't as selfish, self serving and jealous as they are now.Would everyone like to live in England 300 years ago where only lords and Barons could hunt?Isn't that why there is a United States?
If you don't like hunting w/ hounds that's cool,But hunters shouldn't hate hunters that do.
 
By the way we don't break fences or scream through anybodys yard,Some of us do have ccw permits and carry while we hunt.Threating some one with a gun would a stupid thing to do,probably get ya hurt.
 
And not all states have the same type laws for land. Here you can obtain your dog with out taken firearm onto the land with out permission fenced/posted or not. You can float down a creek stream or a river onto private land and fish all day with out getting into trouble. Thats why we see alot of fences stretch over creeks and such here.
 
I am the original poster and I feel I need to give my feelings on it. I don't think I could ever shoot another mans dog unless I was threatened by it. The dog being on my property is not the dogs fault but its the owner of the dog. I know people that hunt with dogs and radios and trucks but they have permission to let their dogs be on that property. I myself prefer not to hunt coyotes this way but I know others do and thats ok. Being the owner of my land and seeing this just didn't feel right especially when I hunt coyotes there on foot. To me the hunters knew their dogs were hunting my property and they were sitting and waiting.
I have owned this property for 13 years and I have never posted any No Trespassing, No Hunting signs thinking not to ster up any local emotions and I have never had any trouble or anything stolen or damaged. When I seen the trucks with antennas on my properties edge the first feeling I got was I was being violated and I was wondering if it was legal to do this?
 
The dogs are the responsibility of the handler and he's knowingly trespassing on your land (whether with his dogs, his truck, or otherwise).

You could shoot the dogs if you really wanted to. Not saying to do that, but it is your land. Talk to the people and give them a chance to respect your wishes. If they cant, do what you gotta do.

WOW, I am glad you are in Kansas. I use my dogs for hunting coyotes. I will not turn my dogs out on land I can not hunt, I do not hunt on land I do not have permission to do so. Animals are animals you may think you have the best handling dog and then they will make a liar out of you. Unless you talk to the person how do you know it wasnt an honest mistake and the one time your dogs will not obey. Someone shoots at my dogs they had better be able to handle the wrath I am going to bring, I would probably go to jail. There are people who know they are doing wrong all over the USA, and people who make mistakes.
 
Threatening someone out here is usually not necessary but I do carry one for the fact of idiots who won't listen. I am one and they are 4,5, or more, I want something to keep them at a distance. I am not against dogs or the people who do it responsibly and correctly. Running through my yard when my little ones are outside usually means your &ss is in trouble. Thats one straw you won't break again.
 
When deer hunting with dogs was still legal here, a lot, not all, but a lot would turn loose on posted property and race to the other side to shoot what came out. Now the Arkansas law says intentionally doing this is illegal. I tell coon hunters I don't want them on the property I have leased but after season they "BRAG" about coming in from the backside. And they have anyone who tresspasses on their property arrested. It only takes 1 jerk to make 10 good hunters look bad.

Oh ya fences been down a few were they tried to fence it all away across. Got a pond behind my house. The pond is on two properties. Where the border line goes threw the pond they had a bridge built and in the middle theres a 6 ft chain link fence gate to keep the folks out, when there fishing the other side.
But on the dog note, I hunt MTN Curs "OMCBA and Kemmer" I had a few hounds put they were for stricking a track and getting the chase started. After that I'd pack in my good ole Cur dogs. The MTN Curs are bout 30 to 50 pounds put they are some fisty little things.
 
I'm thinking a dog coming onto our fenced property would
have a life expectency of about 30 seconds to a minute
before our dogs killed them. They don't tolerate any
strange dogs coming near their goats.

A strange hunter might last a little longer.

Not sure anyone around us runs dogs or not.
 
You have to have permission to go on anyones property and you have to have permission o hunt within 300 yards of any dwelling(even if they just rent). You cannot shoot on, over, or allong a roadway. Guns must be cased and unloaded while in a vehicle.Just call the cpo's and tell them what is going on. Once people see them patrolling they will move on. Respect is a two way street.
