Moved out of Illinois 3 years ago thank God, but have a lot of good hunting spots in northern and central west parts. Buddy wants me to come back to hunt but I’m scared to bring my AR ‘s back in the state.Any thoughts, this is probably directed more to Kino cause he hunts over there. My bolt action aren’t set up for tripod use plus I like using my AR’s.

Hopefully scotus will mop this mess up before November. This Bs was just a good excuse to build several bolt guns on chassis and Magpul stocks.

Heymartay, sorry for the late response, I'm just now seeing this!

So I had a long lonnnnng conversation with a state trooper last year and his understanding was the ban only applied to residents, non residents are now applicable so he said use your ARs all you want, BUT unfortunately it's a gray area and the wrong officer could make things frustrating.

The real answer is there is no clear answer, especially for non residents so proceed with your own judgment. It might help to contact the game wardens in the areas you plan to hunt to get their take on the law but again if your night hunting your just as likely to run into anyone with a badge.

Hopefully SCOTUS slaps it down soon.
