Hunting in California

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this site and to predator hunting. I wanted to know if anyone hunts in Ca. If so where and what are the rules and regulations. I checked DFG's web site, which did not give much info other then the seasons. I live in the foothills so I can hunt either the low country or head to the hills and hunt the timber.

Anyways, any information would be greatly appreciated and the site is great. Thanks

Hello back and welcome

To answer you somewhat, there is an "association" of hunting clubs across SoCal and CPC in Sacramento. There's info on most of the clubs nationwide in the members area. SmallBlockFuelie and LionHo are local. BillyTheKidd and Weasel-UT know CA well but now live elsewhere. Plus plenty of others.

Hunting in California/Nevada for desert coyotes is a bit different than other states. Summarizing the regulations - Coyote season is all year day or night. You need a hunting license in CA; no license required in NV. All the rest of the regulations are for night hunting and can be totally ignored during daylight hours.

At night, coyote season is open all year statewide in California, and county-by-county in Nevada. In the CA zone and many NV counties you can use a vehicle attached spotlight. In CA you need to have your engine off. In NV, you can run with a light. CA allows you to hunt statewide at night with a 6v light. You can't physically attach any kind of light or night vision to a firearm in CA, but the driver or a spotter can use whatever.

That sums much of it.
