Hunting New Mexico

Hello Gents,
I've taken a position to work near Santa Fe, NM. I am moving early next year. I am moving from the Midwest and this will be a very different coyote calling environment for me. I would appreciate any advice or areas to call. I am seeing that night hunting is also not allowed so I'm gonna have to get a better day time hunting setup. Lastly, it would be cool to find a hunting partner in the area. I'm pretty laid back and respectful, and pull more than my weight. Thanks Gents.

Hey Lazer, I'd think that, while different from what you're accustomed to, hunting opportunities would be a lot better for you in NM. Should be a bit closer to family, as well? Best of luck to you, my friend. Look forward to hearing about your adventures in the near future. Regards, Clarence.

Good luck in NM, Lazer! I hope your new work and predator hunting experiences turn out better than planned! I've no experience with how the hunting is there, but from the sounds of the folks that do know, you should find it to your liking. Wishing you the best!

One thing nice about NM there is a ton of public land, you'll never have to worry about cultivating private land. PM me when you get settled make be we can get together. You don't have to worry about showing people the good spots even if it's good you might never get around to hunting it again. It's the same all time very the west. I'm getting ready for the duck opener.

Like AWS said there is plenty of room to find some honey holes you won’t have a hard time finding some coyotes to hunt. You can hunt at night with thermal if you wanna make that jump, lots of guys have been going that route lately.

AWS take me with and show me the ropes to duck hunting. I have been wanting to go for years now just never have. I’ll drive and pay for gasšŸ˜‰

Thanks @AWS . I'll send you a message once I'm settled in. Good luck with the ducks. I've done my fair share of attempting to hunt ducks in MI.
@arielp I don't think it's legal to night hunt coyotes in NM. I do that already here in MI and checked the regs.

Thermals at night are illegal in nm, it has nothing to do with light but NM has strict hunting hours, non-game animals included.

No, Lazer, we sold our home & moved to Houston last December. If you drive down again and pass Houston give me a call and maybe we can get together. Will PM contact info manana. Regards, Clarence

I should have reached out earlier Clarence. I drove through there 3 weeks ago and stopped in Carthage, TX at a Whataburger. It's become one of my traditions to eat at that same restaurant whenever I pass through. That area northeast of Houston sure is pretty; way different than west Texas.

East TX piney woods are beautiful and Whataburger hard to beat, Lazer. I'll send my phone # and next time you can give me a call.😊

Yes thermals are legal in Nm. Guys have been running them for about 10 years now, night vision and spot lighting is not legal. Thermals are ok, I have talked to multiple people from game and fish and there are no laws against thermals. Coyotes only

Ya it’s totally legal. More of a loophole then anything, I think game and fish didn’t think about thermal back in the day when making their rules. I’m sure it’s gonna change eventually but ya I know guys who have been running thermal for close to 10 years now but kept it hush hush because not a lot of guys knew it was legal. Cats out of the bag now, I know lots of guys running thermals now. I haven’t made the jump yet, I love day time calling. Hoping to make it out sometime this week for the first stand of the fall, temps sure are nice this time of year.

Actually after just speaking to the game warden five minutes ago it is only legal on private land with the permission of the land owner. NM's hunting hours 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 after sunset covers non-game animals also on public lands.
