Hunting roads, power lines, and trails in thick cover

I just today scouted a power line clear cut that is not far from my place and I remembered it from seeing this thread.

Place looks sweet. Goes up a mountain is strewn with boulders and about 200 yards wide. Looks like total cat territory.

Prob is it is posted no trespassing.

Who owns these things and could you get permission to hunt them??
Who to talk to?

I know I have seen cars parked there off the side of the road during deer season.

I want to hunt this spot bad.

We have several spots we hunt that have power lines.I would think the Power Co. would own them but the landowner has the right of way for them. I haven`t seen any of ours posted. I would talk to the landowner, and explain to him your intentions. We have gained permission to hunt some areas by agreeing to hunt yotes only. Also we have agreed to hunt only after deer season. We have seen them come in to mow the power lines with some real funky mowersfrom the airsince most of the powerlines we hunt you can`t park near.

That is absolutely the WRONG thing to do!!!...NEVER setup with the wind on your back especially in a thicket....If the wind is blowing from your backside in that particular area then go somewhere else and hunt and hit that place when the wind is right...Power lines are some of the best hunting that there is to hunt...Do what GC said and you will have no problems scoring on a coyote...

I too disagree with the wind at your back. All I hunt are pipelines and powerlines. Wind in my face, caller across the way(a little upwind), and next to something so thick a gnat couldn't get through.

OK you are surrounded by woods right?
Facing down wind they already smelled you with out having to come out, and if the come in from the upwind side... well they are on your blind side

Facing into the wind- if they get down wind of you, you winded a dog that you couldn't see anyways.
If they walk out up wind they can't smell you and you can see them. If they come out across from you, well you have the crosswind carrying away your scent. You have an 180 degree shot opprotunity.

In the post below I used a pile of logs to hide my caller instead of a vine thicket, but it paid off.

Thanks John. I'll take a ride over there soon and see if i can glean any info off the posted sign. I'll get a pic too. The place is really cool looking. Probably alot like what you all got down there. Mountains and boulders

The way we look at it is we ain`t hunting now.All they can do is say no. Wehave also agreed to hunt the fall but to stay out of the aresa in November when Buck season opens. Some of the power lines right of ways here are on rolling hills and about 40 yards . Makes it a challenge.
