Hunting Self-Climbing Tree Stand

I hunt a lot on public lands, hike 1-6 miles and I’m looking for a portable, lightweight, and sturdy/safe self-climbing tree stand.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

I used to do a LOT of that myself. I gave up on the self-climbers for around these parts too many trees with limbs. When I lived in Mississippi there was no issues finding lots of trees to climb and I used a Loggy Bayou and a Summit with good luck.
I switched to a small hang-on that weighed 6lbs and 3 sections of light-weight aluminum ladder that weighed 3lbs and I could get about 14-15ft up in about 5 minutes with minimum noise.

I've been using the summit viper series for the past several years. They are the most comfortable stand I've ever used. And are very stable.

I had one of those Self Climbers once. Set it at the base of the tree and watched it for near two hours and it never did climb that tree.

Yup +1. Best stand I've ever used!!!!!!!!!

The Ol' Man stands work very nice too! All of the stands mentioned work good but if I were to buy one now I think that I'd go with Summit.

cant go wrong with a summit viper

A few friend's use the Loggy Bayou but I prefer hang on's.On our state land it's illegal to cut limbs/branches or use screw in steps or nails.I get around that by using strap on steps. My friends have to pass up some good locations.

Summit,Lone Wolf and Ol Man Climbers seem to be about the best 3 Climbing Stands I have seen on the market,You need to see which one would fit Your needs and price range the best, which is going to be the lightest for carrying and which would be the most comfortable and easiest to use!

My son-in-law loaned me his to see how I like it:

Been using Google Earth to help me spot mud holes and openings that I might not find other wise.

Found one mud hole in a creek bed that had many trails leading in/out from all (many) directions. With only owning one trail cam, I set it up at a pinch point (many trails meet) this past Saturday and got many photos:

Here is the best photo of a pig coming out of the mud hole and the cam has been catching it between 9pm-11pm:

Another photo of a doe traveling back and fourth between 4pm-5:30 pm:

Got my spot picked, marked, etc for the tree climber where I will be able to see from three different directions, keeping me in the shadows of the canopy of the tree, and whatever travels to the mud hole will be seen under a full moon.

I was planning to start hunting (between 8pm-2am) tomorrow night but the winds picked up today because of Tropical Storm Isaac (I live 100 miles from LA) so I’ll have to see how that plays out.

I know it's not a climbing stand but I use the trophy line tree saddle with lone wolf sticks, very portable and lightweight.

Summit Open Shot SS! Weighs 14lbs... Don't think you will find a lighter one. Easy to use and the quality is awesome. Seat flips up if you want to stand.

Timber Tall stands are the lightest and strongest I know of. They are a small company but make a great product. I have one and several Summit stands and the Timber Tall is the lightest stand with the greatest strength/weight limit. However...I havent checked to see if theyre around any more.

I too have been looking around for a good stand for lots of traveling and ease of use. although i havent tried ether one yet, as far as self climbers, the "X-stand" seems to be the way to go since it only ways 11.5 lbs i think. but after much research i believe im goin to go with the guido's web. you can watch videos of both these stands on youtube
