I have been trying to get out and kill some yotes but all my spots require 4x4 now that its snowing and wet. I have one that I have to drive up a guys shared drive but them pull into the field/grass that im not sure if he owns or the landowner but he said in deer season he didn't mine me parking there.

ive got another that is next to and behind a house and I usually drive the edge of the line of their yard and the field but im afraid it will be too muddy.

what do you guys usually do?

I hunt a lot of grain fields and hay fields
when it's wet I park at the field entrance and walk messing up a farmer's field it a sure way to get kicked out

Get stuck sometimes. Sometimes I don't. I tore the front end of a Ford Focus up somethin fiercely bad hunting a day after a blizzard once. I don't stay home.

my thing is there is nowhere to park and walk. I don't mind walking its the parking and walking is what I have to worry about. the one good spot is a bean field with drive lane. the field sits a smidge lower than the road and usually is kinda wet. I even thought about asking the farmer next door to park maybe at his barn and walk across the road and down in but idk how I feel about walking past someone's yard and house with a rifle. plus its kinda odd imo to say hey can I park in front of your barn to hunt someone elses land.

I'm a newbie to private land so asking for help.

That would be a good excuse to introduce yourself & let him know his neighbor has given you permission to hunt. Who knows, all he can say is no and it might even lead to another piece of ground to hunt.

Regards,

Chains. If you've never used them you'll be astonished where you can go in a 2wd with them.

When we were young we used to chain all 4 on two 4wd trucks then connect both trucks with a towbar. Unstoppable.

4wd, winch for front & rear, pull pal, 60" Highlift jack, tow straps, 2 shovels & rake in bed, chains in the truck (never used them yet). I stay on ranches 2 tracks rain/wet/slush snow. If I cant drive in I will walk the rest of the way to where I need to get.
Been stuck to many times alone in all my years so I learned what to carry and when to stop before getting stuck miles from help.
I have to be self sufficient & get unstuck alone when/if I do get hung up.

Ask both landowners if you can park on their driveway, or just off of it in a place where you won't get stuck (hopefully), and not block their drives so they can come & go as they please.

same.

For me a 4 wheel drive is for getting out of a jam, not into one.

I agree with you on the 4x4 I never understood the reason behind it. when I went to get my truck my old one was 2wd with 250k miles on it and ready to blow up so didn't have time to save $ for down payment and didn't get much for the old one. all they would finance me for was a 2wd.

next one has 4x4 no matter what.
