Hunting with a light is illegal in missouri right????

Just got off the phone with my local county agent. The only way a landowner can spotlight and shoot coyotes at night is with a special permit that can be issued by your local agent. You must prove the coyotes are causing problems to get the permit. I also called the main office in Jefferson City and got the same answer. So I guess the answer is yes and no.

We used to drive around at night before deer season (without firearms) and spotlight or look for large deer in the area, but now that's called harassment or something similar.

Landowners can spotlight animals on their property, but not shoot them without permission as mentioned above.

This rule does not apply to landowners on their property. My local warden says no,but I believe a guy could beat this in court.MAYBE

Leave it to our goofy rulebook. Almost sounds like baiting people into fines.
Junki I hear old timers say all the time that was the best scouting but I know now they fly planes around and during deer season to look for lights shining fields bet they'd spot you from a few miles away now!

Yea, I loved seeing the bucks out at night, getting a good look at the racks. Looking over alfalfa or bean fields, gave you a good idea what was out there.

Junki no offense lol
Bet that was extremely effective scouting tactic
Glad another state has goofy rules too. Taking away birdsounds would hurt my calling for sure.

Our warden told me thenl land owner rule is so farmer/ranchers can check their cattle at night when they are having calves. He stumbled around a lot when answering especially after reading the rule again. I agree it would be tough to dispute in court. He also told me that if we are having issues with yotes bothering cattle nothing would be said if we are protecting them. We have never lost a calf to coyotes but we have seen them harrasing the cow waiting for afterbirth that could cause problems especially with first calf heifers.

Maybe you guys in MO should consider getting the night hunting laws changed. About 60% of the states allow hunting for predators and nuisance species at night. Most of those also allow using night vision as well.

I agree but it isn't that easy

Anyone have a list of those states that do and their regs??

ND predator hunting is allowed at night, but no artifical light or night vision.
FL hog hunting and I believe coyote hunting is allowed at night, but again no artificial light or night vision.
