Hwlp me out - Which rifle?

I am going to buy myself a new AR for my retirement. It will be used for mainly prairie dog and other varmints and maybe some coyote hunting also. I already have a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 LR scope for it. I was pretty much settled on a Rock River Arms LAR 15 X-1 rifle in the tan color. The RRA's seem to get good reviews from hunters using them. I can get it for $1300 from a dealer on line with a 3 month or so wait. However, I keep seeing that many people recommend Colt as the "best" rifle. I have looked on Gun Broker and can find Colt Competition models from anywhere about $1300-1900 approximately. I want an 18" barrel (maybe 20" would be alright, but want to keep the weight down a little as I am no spring chick). I see there are different models such as Competition Pro 18-20" ($1800-1900), Competition Expert in the $1300-1400 range and maybe some other models. Also, I want an adjustable stock as my wife will also use it and it gets cold in Montana in the winter so may have heavier clothes on. This will probably be the last one I can buy because of retirement. I want to buy good, but I don't need the most expensive rifle available, just a good one. What can you tell me about these different models and what do you recommend? Thanks

In that price category the Stag Arms 3G is one awesome rifle! It took me a long while of agonizing over which rifle to buy, but after the first 5 rounds out of my 3G I knew I made a good choice and wouldn't trade it for 2 of anything else out there! 3 others? OK, but i would sell 'em and buy myself another 3G

Since your talking about only getting one I would have it built the way you want. You could buy one off the shelf and be happy with it or you end up changing things. Have you checked out Specialized Dynamics they can build you what you want the first and only time (so you say lol). They can build an AR to your specifications color, barrel lenght, trigger ect. Give them a look see what you think. You have some options.

After a lot of thought I found a Colt Competition Pro (CRP-18) for less than $1600 with free shipping so ordered that. I did add insurance to it, so it was another $18. I've seen them for as much as $1900, so think I did ok. Before I came across this one the cheapest I found was about $35 more which was not bad but also $25 shipping which was still a pretty good deal.

It shipped today. When I purchased it they said it would be a few days even though it was in stock, but apparently they are selling so many guns there is a backlog on shipping. The email I got from them first said it would ship next Tuesday, so this was a little surprise. It is supposed to be guaranteed to shoot 1" or less at 100 yards and ships with test target. I guess we will see. I thought about the 20' also, but kind of liked the 18' better by the pictures and this was a very good deal. I did some research and most of the reviews I was able to find were good. Good luck with your decision.
