Hydro dipping? Do it or not?

I do it and I have not had any issues. Sealing it is the key once you get it dipped. I use marine grade sealers. There is a learning curve tot this but hey....its fun also

Kag, what sealer are you using? I dipped a shotgun and will dip my ar when it warms up some. All I have is the clear coat that came with the kit.

You guys that are dipping AR15s.... are you disassembling the rifle to stripped upper/lower or dipping it whole?

I break it down, lightly sand/scuff, then wash in the dishwasher....except long barrels and optics. Good automotive primer. The just dip the parts, wash them very good with just running water. If I mess up I just scuff and reprime and re-dip.

TWN in Wichita has really good film. I will also bake my parts after sealed for like 10 minutes at 300f. Google marine grade clear sealer spray on paint sealer. I usually use the matte. There are a couple of hydrographic forums you can lurk to see what things they are using as those guys do it professionally and are experts at this. I am no expert and just do it as fun. There is a lot of new stuff out so your choices are many on gun coatings.

Trial and error....dip coffee cups and mags and other stuff till you sort it out. I use clear plastic rubber maid tubs as my dipp tanks and always do my small stuff first as it a good test bed for new film.

BTW....I really really like that ATACS camo stuff I did the bolt gun and shotgun with.

I have had several guns dipped and don't have any concerns regarding the durability of the finish. Areas of wear are no more severe than any other coatings.
