Hydro dipping with paint question??

So I want to dip some accessories by hydro dipping with paint. The problem?? The paint seems to be almost drying and filming up before I get to dip it...
 
That's funny! One of the things I was going to do was a bear skull...I never even dipped anything as the paint filmed up then disapated when I swirled it...
 
You gotta watch what paint you use. Some will not hold the ink worth a crap. I used flat automotive paint on a few to try and they did ok, but the pattern seams clearer when you use the paint from a dip company. I don't know the difference in them. I've dipped a good bit of pieces
 
I'm spraying paint into a bucket of water. There are tons of YouTube videos showing it. I was using krylon fusion in camo colors, but I'll admit the paint may have been old...after spraying, your supposed to swirl it around to make a camoish pattern. The ones on YouTube look good...

Within a few seconds of me spraying mine in the water it films up then breaks up when I gently swirl it...
 
temperature is supposed to play a part, cold makes it skin up. It also seems that some colors do it regardless. I played with it for a couple days but it got omg cold so i haven't been able to keep working on it. I bought some rusto non spray to try, think it will give more consistant results. But being that my dipping tank is a solid block of ice and will remain so for the next few months...



There is a lot more texture to these than i expected. I was going to do a couple stocks but until i really get this figured out, not going to happen.
 
This afternoon i closed onmy new house in florida. It was 80 there today. However I'm in wy for the next few months, and I'm in the middle of a blizzard currently.
 
Try icing your water and spraying more paint. It takes longer for a thicker coat of paint to cure no matter the conditions. You do have to be a little quick in my very limited experience. To the point of spraying 2 colors at one time ifnyoure doing more than 2, and having what you're dipping ready to go.
 
Is the warm water temp for the borax and laquer? The first time I tried dipping with spray paint it was with Luke warm water and the paint hardened way way too fast
 
What I seen it has to be 78-80. The amount of borax is kinda important too. Then the laquer paint. I havnt paid a lot of attention to the spray paint method.
