I picked up a NIB 1895CB 45-70 today.Always wanted one but to be honest a little concerned about the recoil. It was raining but I had to stop by an open field where I shoot a little on the way home and fired two rounds. Not bad, Actually it is pretty cool. Im sure after a few rounds the shoulder would know it but I am very happy with the gun.Now I need to figure out what sight to get. I like the peeps that hang over the side of the rifle. ANy suggestions? I know I dont want a scope at least for a year or two hopefuly more.

Accurate 5744 is a great powder for lighter loads in the 45/70

I have this Marbles on my 1895 CB 45/70

Factory loads are an absolute hoot. Big boom and low recoil. You can load it up to shoulder dislocating velocities if you want.

Rich44, what model is the Lyman and do you like it better than the Williams? I guess the Williams FP336 will fir the 1895.

I really like my nef 45/70, been shooting 405 sjsp out of it, but just developed a load with the 325 hornady leverevolution for it for bear, sadly didn't get a chance to use it though, the Barnes bullets shoot really well too.
