I got the call

After hanging two ladder stands today with my brother, I was shot. Took a hot bath, hopped on my laptop and settled in to PM for some banter among friends. And then it happened. A landowner texted me saying coyotes were yapping behind her house and come kill them all! Not one to disappoint, I hopped in some hunting clothes, grabbed my lanyard, chest pack and rifle and drove the 1 mile to her house. I made one setup pretty low on the property due to a west wind and not knowing exactly where they were. After 15 minutes of nothing I moved a few hundred yards uphill and to the west to where I thought they might be and come from.

I started with some howls on my Carver female/pup howler followed by my Varmints Inc Micro Howler and got a response right where I thought, but wayyy off. I hammered out another set of howls on the Micro and started scanning. Two popped over the rise a couple minutes later headed my way. One turned broadside and started heading downhill from right to left with the larger one hanging back a bit. I woofed and stopped the broadside one and she turned slightly towards me. I settled in and dumped her at 120 yards. The other took off without any opportunity to get one in it, and it didn’t show back up after hammering some yote distress.

Really pretty female. Nothing but hand calls!

Edit to add weight. Didn’t realize how big she was until I lifted her into the truck bed! One of the properties I have to remove them. She’s a big girl!

That's a good one, she would be close or top for heavy female in a hunt. Hope your spots are secret or you'll have everybody after them when the money hunts come up.
Not a secret spot, but a spot that I’m the only guy that has the go ahead.

No money hunts in NY. Politicians banned such things a few years back. 🙄 I’m surprised the idiots making the rules still allow fishing derbies and tournaments.

Excellent Bob, On my way home from hangin off the side of a tree last evening I also got a txt.
I got home, unloaded then reloaded the suv and changed clothes. Stopped a Mickey Dees for a burger to eat on the way. Spent a very cold hour in set--cold clothes are (were, until this afternoon) still in a tote. They talked and came to both sides of the pastured hollow but would not show themselves.
GLAD YOUR CALL WORKED OUT BETTER THAN MINE.

"It don't get no better than that", Bob. 😝(y)
She wasn't my biggest female ever, Clarence. But she was definitely right up there within a pound or two! I haven't broken the 50 lbs mark with a male yet, but I have come close.

I think it's pretty great that I have the opportunity to kill some pretty large coyotes. The downside is that killing 5, 8, 10 or more in a single night is almost an impossibility! I would say that most of my northeastern comrades would agree!

Thanks everyone for the posts! I swear, if her husband was the one that texted me, I would have ignored it! 😉

Wow what a miraculous recovery ! Amazing how the word COYOTE can do that 😂 ! Congrats Bob ! You’re starting to really like the hand calls !
Thanks, Mick! Yeah, I can go from a slug to super hunter at the drop of a text! :ROFLMAO:

I've carried hand calls forever. I've called in fox and coyotes on occasion with them, but it's always been as a backup to my e-caller or when I seen one heading in or out of a set and didn't have an opportunity to set out an e-call. The last season or two I'm finding more willing critters to my hand blown calls than ever. I really think there is just enough difference in the sound to trigger them. There's a lot of callers around, and they all use electronic callers. I don't know any of them personally that even carry a hand call. I'm not announcing my secrets to success! 😜

So because I ended up bringing Big Girl home with me the other night and her fur was really nice I messaged my fur guy and told him she was in the pickup spot if he wanted her. She was gone early yesterday. He messaged me last night to say thanks. He said her coat looked good. A little coarse but nice and full. He commented on her size and said she was a tank! He said his only problem was the 500,000 ticks!… I told him that I had removed 3 ticks from her and hoped that helped! 🤣 He tans for decorative hanging furs for man caves or whatever. Sells at flea markets and sport shows etc.
