They are first class great but you must be in US Military or Federal Law Enforcement to own one, look very carefully before forking over the cash for one as when NCIS, ICE, Homeland Security, Agent Wu knocks on your door to confiscate it, you will not get a refund.

You'll also need a Wilcox dovetail flip picitanny mount shoe to attach it to a weapon with a rail.

Boson core is proprietary FLIR only and is a total game changer, no other uncooled Vanadium Oxide microbolometer will be able to touch it for the foreseeable future, the 320 cores are as good as most 640 cores, the separate integrated Movidius video microprocessor is extremely powerful and will take 10 years for the software updates to mature out, including many AI applications heretofore never seen.
 
So my buddy is selling a utm x full kit that he never used. It's all legal and with his career in mind, I am certain that it's all good. He is asking 9k. Don't know what they are going for, just the messenger

After hearing what Skypup had to say and asking a dealer as well, It would be against my good judgement to buy a UTM x. One of the two in question have a 35mW laser which is not supposed to be out of government hands and I could never get fixed or upgraded or caught with. I don't really need lasers anyway. Also they are out of warranty. I was told that BAE charges $1600 just to do a tear down and look at and that does not go towards the repair, it is on top of the repair costs. Several of you suggested the Trijicon IR Defense MK3's, I didn't realize that it has a BAE core. Tonya at Aurora Tactical was a huge help, gave me a lot of her time and seems to have some great prices as well. I'm strongly leaning towards an MK3 along with a NV headset. Guess I'm going dedicated night weapon. 6.5 Grendel or a shorter lighter weight .308 than what I have? Been wanting to build a Grendel!
By all means keep the input coming in, I'm an eager learner!

I had pretty much blown off the BAE StalkIR, then the dealer called. The one from before had sold, but he just got two more in, maybe never used as all the kit components are still in factory wrappers.
I'm getting drawn back into the bada$$ factor. Someone tell me that a dedicated night hunting Grendel with a MK3 is the better route to go.

^^^^Yes on something that expensive just go Trijicon MK3 and rest easy knowing you've got warranty and there's nothing sketchy about the unit. That's what I'd do anyway.
 
I'm not sure what all the worry is with these bar systems units, defense contractors sell them a lot aparrntly. Buy hey, it's not my money, I don't even own my own yet
 
It is a black market item with two 35mW lasers restricted to Mil and Fed LE, what's not to like?

When the Feds come knocking for it you can always buy a new one with money left over from the defense attorneys highly specialized in Federal court cases, maybe they will plea bargain for a full refund too to help pay their retainer fees?
 
I got you, I just would have thought if it was illegal, large contract companies wouldn't be selling them out in the open.
 
If you absolutely want a legal military thermal weapon scope, both the FLIR T-70 and L3 LWTS are available through authorized distributors without lasers and they are both very good and versatile thermal Clip-Ons.

If you absolutely need to have a BAE microbolometer, the Truijicon MKIII are also available through authorized distributors.

They are all legal and you can get them all repaired if ever need be without any legal hassles.

Defense Contractors are not allowed to sell military procurement items to the public.
 
I have no skin in this game. I could care less how another guys spends his money. Just wondering why these huge corporations would be selling items out in the open if it's against the law.

Buy one, post photos of it on public forums on the internet and find out, you'll get a first class education!

I could buy three of them right now if I wanted to, but I know better than to buy black market US Military gear and one of my friends is a Federal Marshal and goes hunting with me and, would rather not see him testify against me in a Federal Court.
 
Personally, I have NO interest in spending my time in a Federal Court or a Federal Pen without parole or time off for good behavior, when I could instead remain free and go hunting 365/24/7:
