I Remember When...............

During World War II, the Game Commission urged trappers and hunters to support the war effort by donating furbearer carcasses. animal fats and grease, were essential for producing glycerin, a key ingredient in explosives like nitroglycerin.

According to historical records, trappers donated approximately 1,000 tons of grease during the war. This was part of broader civilian efforts to collect waste fats and oils for wartime manufacturing.

For me it wasn't all that long ago! About 15 years ago I got out of shooting and only last fall got back at it. So I went to restock some of my supplies (primers, powder bullets) and was blown away by the steep cost increase across the board....not $20 or $40 but $80 $100 more for the same stuff.

Interesting, Mark. I turned 5 just four months earlier and remember I was with dad, fishing in the ship channel on 7 Dec., 1941. Heard of Pearl Harbor attack on radio in a restaurant on the way home. Remember saving tin cans, etc. to be recycled, gas rationing and lots of other shortages during the war, blackout drills, etc. Man, what a difference when everyone was on the same page and pulling in the same direction.
And the greenies think they invented recycling.:ROFLMAO:

Clarence, I remember some of those pics from earlier posts--sure wish I (and my family before me) would have taken more pics. Bet they bring back some really good memories!
22mag-you sure must have a lot of old papers stashed somewhere-really neat the letter to Santa that you just happened to marry.

Actually, the newspapers containing the ads and letters came to me from an old friend. I had them in my possession for over a month and read most of them front to back, then returned to the owner. Just happens that starting yesterday the wife and I are going through several boxes of pictures and various types of cards and attempting to sort them into some sort of categories??? If I'm not mistaken, Clarence and I may be the oldest of the frequent viewers/participants here and with that comes a lot of memories and stories (some left better untold!) Don't you guys be bashful, let us hear from you!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that didn't file old photos in any sort of order, Bud. Big job to try and sort them out all these years later, but it does bring back some fond memories. Thanks to all who have shared their photos, hope to see many more in the future.
I remember when Sex was safe and Race cars were dangerous.
:ROFLMAO:
