Any thoughts on a stainless rifle with a composite stock.I have several AR's and a ruger varmint. Just want something very small and light.

It's not stainless, but the Remington 700VTR is small and light. I am a Savage guy, but I really like this rifle so far.

Tikka T3 stainless/synthetic. You won't find one that shoots better for the money. !!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

How about this one? .223 Tikka T3 lite.

Shoots about 1/2 inch or better with most loads.

Here is a group that is a little better than average.

By the looks of your avitar I'm guessing you're a hound hunter.
Alot of the hound hunters over here in Idaho like the Contender's. Some buy the 14" handgun and put a rifle stock on it.
I'm not real sure of the legality of this set up, but I've handeled them and can tell ya "They're Lite Weight and Very Handy" They fit nicely in a back pack./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Browning Micro Hunter or Model Seven's are nice too.

I just purchased a Thompson Contender G2 in .223. Mine currently has a 16' barrel and is extremely light and compact. Easily the lightest gun I have owned and I had a light little composite AR-15 and a 700 LVSF. I purchased a 22" bull barrel for it but even with that I bet in weight it will beat most others.

I threw a scope on it and sited it in tonight and was very impressed.

Mine is blued but very otherwise the same.

I have a Remington SPS stainless in .243. I was amazed at how accurate it was with so many loads. It is also small and light. Might want to check it out. I have been thinking about one for a few weeks for the same reasons you are. They are quite durable too, BTW.

I vote for the Ruger Ultra Light not the compact, put a timney trigger in it and whooooa boy mine will really squeeze the groups tight especially with ballistic tip bullets

Hands down .... the trimmest gun around in .223 is the CZ 527 American.

And it has a set trigger built in!

The action is so small .... my fingers don't really fit into the race way to pluck a casing or live round out of there ......

...... I swear that CZ litteraly built the micro mauser action around the .223 round.

Three 44s

Three 44s has it spot on..a buddy of mines bought on of these recently and its a trim rifle, whatsmore its very accurate...gotta go with the cz 527 American..

They are also illegal unless registered with the ATF as a short barrel weapon and the 200 buck fee's paid.

CZ makes a 527 carbine in 223 that weighs 5.9 pounds. Check it out.
