Icebreaker Coyote (Pics...plus pics from the last 2 days)

I have my first client for the 2010/2011 season rolling in this evening. I just got the new hunting rig and all my equipment all lined up and I asked my neighbor if he'd want to go make a couple stands this afternoon to work out any of the kinks and break the ice as I hate starting the season on a full moon week. He jumped at the opportunity.

It had been raining all morning and the sun finally came out when we started around 2pm. With the sun....came HEAT! We rolled onto a nice 32 section ranch that hasn't heard a predator call since January. It was freakin humid and hot, when we settled down for our first stand. Called for 15 minutes...rabbit, howling, puppy distress...a blank stand. We went down about 2 miles and played the same scenario...rabbit, howling, puppy distress....another blank stand! Hmmm...

We went down the road a couple more miles and setup on a crosswind stand. Same scenario...rabbit, lipsqueak....LIPSQUEAK?!?! My partner spotted a coyote coming in from behind us. (Yeah...Monkey off my back!!

This big male wasn't coming in hard, but he WAS coming in. Made me feel more comfortable with the full moon and all. A little lipsqueaking, a little MOJO Puppy Dog decoy, and a little Gunner action and we got this coyote in pretty close. My partner had the gun, while I snapped the shutter and got a bunch of pictures...

It was all over quickly and the coyote died humanely. We loaded up and head back to the house to meet the kids when they got off the school bus.

Oh yeah...Gunner likes pimping in his new ride! Sore lip and all.

Thanks guys. Gotta love an automatic shutter. I've got 98 more photos, just like these. That's the key to getting one or two good photos!

Alright, I gotta get off this computer and go calling.

Thanks...TT

WOW Tony, you must have a good telephoto lense on that camera of yours. That one with the coyote facing you with his mouth wide open looks like about 5 ft. away and I don't think you were that close....or were you. All of them look very close tell us about the lense and camera. All I can say is WOW...they are great pictures.

Right on Tony! Gunner and the rig look great;awesome pulling 'em in even when the conditions suck and man, do I know they've been suckin'. Love the new signature line, explains a lot.

INSANE!!! Fantastic pics!!!! Hard enough to catch a glimpse of a coyote, let alone tell a whole story through the magic of photography. Thanks for sharing.

DITTO!!
WAY COOL! I use to take pics of rattle snakes up close and personal, I would lay down on the ground in front of them and use my zoom, got some great shots, but your's my friend are truly awesome. It would be worth the price of admission to see Gunner in action! More please...
