Keep trying newbie. I have been at it hard for seven years, and have maybe fourteen dogs down. So I only average two a year. So I'm on a hot streak this year. I've figured out my number one tip is stealth getting into your stand.
My biggest problem where I hunt is the Feds get called in a couple times a year to fly and kill coyotes. Tough competition.
2 stands this morning resulted in 1 coyote and one miss must be a little rusty defiantly moving south of twin this morning going to hit it agin tomorrow
Man we been chasing these things for a long time locating them in this big ol desert is the hard part hunt near the dairys if you can get permission even better hunt on them seen 4 coyotes this morning 3 were in the corn field the other in the hay I have spent many hours calling to what seemed like nothing spend 20-45 min on the set then move cover as much ground as possible today was great with the snow makes for a dead give away I also use the canal system alot
I always give them a good 20-30 Min didn't used to and realized there was times I would be headed to pick up decoy and call and run a coyote off that was still 100 yards out and in the evening if I get a response ill sit 45 sometimes
What I mean by the canal system is In my neck of the woods (Twin Falls) is we have miles and miles of canal that runs through the desert such as the Milner gooding canal when snow is on the ground it's amazing at how the coyotes will travel in the canal also find small pockets of left over water they frequent makes for a great place to make a set not to mention killed plenty of coyotes just wondering the fields while on the canal banks
Been out twice specifically for coyotes this season. I called one in for a buddy, his first, and I missed one on a second trip. I didn't get a chance to hunt this fresh snow. Maybe after my 3 days of work I will get a chance to sneak off!
One more day of work and then I get 5 off. I hope to be able get out and get the season started off with bang! Pun intended. I also wouldn't mind getting together with some of the other Idaho hunters one of these days. I still need get together with Rusty Dust.
