Ideal .223 bullet for Cotote

Droopyfur2,
Yes the shot placement of the death spinner that I had mentioned earlier was right in the wheel house the placement was good. The first one that disappeared I don't know where I hit him. But the Vmaxes even with a marginal shot placement and I have had quiet a few EVERY yote with the Vmax DRT. So everything being equal I would say the hollowpoints are inferrior.

I didn't take what you said personal at all. The great thing about theis sight is that everyone has different experiences and opinions of those experiences so it is all good.

fredbeer...i would think that 65 grain sierra would be an excellent choice...if i owned a fast twist 223 there is no doubt in my mind that's what i would use for predator's...

shot placement is the most important that is why your gun must shoot tight groups.when it does you are confident in your shot.and i have not lost a coyote hit with the 17.rem.

Out of all the yotes that I have shot with the 55 grain Vmax the only one that left a large hole was a yote that I shot at 30 yards and his whole shoulder blade shattered and left a very large whole. But the rest have been pretty small holes.

My favorite in the .223 was the 55gr Nosler, nearly all hit in the right spot went down instantly. One took it in the shoulder area, made it 20-30yds, dead on feet, one took it half inch from missing the lower chest, it went 50 yds, dead on feet, must have had one little piece go up into chest cavity. The others went down like hit by lightning. That would be results from 100-125 coyote shot with it.T.20

68 Hornaday Match BTHP do more then I ever give them credit for. Never had a Drop flop but after looking at the body after I get done spraying (I dont shoot an AR because I like the idea of doing the deal in one shot) the first one would have done it no problem every time. Very decent on fur

I like the 55 grain V-Max about as well as anything. I've also had good luck with the 40-grain V-Max... but my number 1 round for several years has been the 62-grain soft point Soviet loaded Silver Bear. Inexpensive, reasonably accurate, and just plain hammers dogs. Not very glamorous but they have worked very well.

My personal bullet of choice has been the Hornady V-max. However, I'm beginning to turn my head towards the 52gr match grade Sierra bullet. My hunting buddy Bill punches little holes into coyotes and they seem to die, DRT dead with little in the way of damage. Frankly I'm extremely impressed with that bullet.

I've used a ton of 55-60 gr V-Maxs. They are an excellent bullet. I also use a lot of Sierra 55 HPs. They work great too. I haven't had a problem with runners using this particular HP. It even worked well on cougars. Some of the other HPs might not work as well I guess.

I have to agree with what was said about the lethality of the V-Max. I used it more in a 22-250 than anything and even a flubbed marginal hit would put them down. Personally I prefer the 55 gr when using the V-Max and the Sierra HP. The 60s in V-Max and Sierra HP normally gave a pretty good exit wound on side shots. If you are just tossing all your coyotes or live in an area with valueless fur, then exits probably won't be an issue. They definitely knock them on their butt. The 55s have worked just as well for me with less fur damage though. I personally don't care for anything much lighter than a 55 in 22 cal. though. Not saying they won't work. Just personal preference.

Good hunting
