If you had $150 to work with and needed a new scope for coyote and deer hunting on a browning bolt 270 what would you chose. I know many say save your money but it would be a while before that would happen.

Id go Used name brand, or lower end brand name now that I have seen the difference. Look at warranty and Customer service befor you buy. Dont Buy a Hilux! lol

Yeah, a used Leupold - you gets what you pays for... especially in optics. Have heard good things about the new Redfields. But I would save more rather than throw away $150. When you buy a $150 scope, you have a scope you cant even got $50 back on if you try to trade up later.

A used Leupold or a Bushnell Elite would be 2 good options as stated above. Have you looked at the Redfield Revolutions yet? I have one in 3x9 and love it so far. They are owned and manufactured by Leupold and carry the same no B.S. lifetime warranty. They are still new so time will tell the truth about them, but so far I am VERY happy with what I've seen.

I have two scopes within your price range to consider.

If you would like a higher powered scope....here a model in a Brand that's not well known but has been around for a long time and has a good reputation for a decent quality scope at affordable prices.

Consider a 6-18X44 AO Swift Premier 669M for $125 (+ shipping) at Amazon.com Do a search on Amazon for Swift 669M and two listings will show up...one for $125 and other for $216. Two different sellers. Ordered one from $125 seller and liked so much for its price and very decent optics, bought a second one. Optics Planet's 669M is $210 and SWFA sells a same power 669M Swift scope that has a later feature than mine for $280.

If you've never heard of Swift, its just an American optics company making microscopes, binoculars and etc since late 1920s. Can remember as early as 1960s, Swift having a good reputation for rifle scopes. Swift makes their own glass and scope made here in USA. Premier models one of their top lines of scopes, have life time warranty, but not transferable.

Check out Swift website, study their info and scopes and then google Swift rifle scope reviews. You'll be hard pressed to find anything negative about Swift scopes.

Here is a scope, the gents here surely will laugh about, but how about a 2.8-10X44 Federal Intensity scope available at Natchez Shooters Supply for....wait for it.........$70 plus shipping. LOL.

Intensity line of scopes owned by ATK and brand discontinued when they acquired Weaver. But, the intensity scopes are in Weaver line as their 40/44 models. Chuckle, Weaver's 2.8-10X44 40/44 sells for around $180 and retails for about $260. Scope is made in Philippines and has aspherical lens system....which is same lens system in Aetec scopes and the old pre Meade Aetecs were made in same plant in Philippines.

I have the 3.8-12X44 AO Intensity with aspherical lens that I bought from Natchez for about $90. I thought it had some very good glass in it when I first viewed thru it. First time at range with it, had some of guys I shoot with about every Sunday view thru the Intensity. Now these guys have the Leopolds, Nikons, Burris and etc. They were impressed with its clarity, brightness and etc. A month or so later one of these guys will show up with a friends rifle that he was working up deer hunting loads for with the same Intensity scope. Guy just raved about the Intensity scope's optics and trust me, he owns some very expensive top brand scopes. OK, its a brand that no longer exists, what about warranty then? Well, Intensity was an ATK company and with Weaver being an ATK company and having same scopes, Weaver handles Intensity warranty which is lifetime. Send in an Intensity scope for warranty, may get a Weaver 40/44 back.

P.S. Want to buy a used Intensity scope...see Ebay....found two only priced about $150 each when I checked about an hour ago.

I would look at the midway speical, the simmons wtc 6.5-20x50ao wide angle,$109. I have three, you can see .260 bullet holes at 300yds easy and it will adjust down to 30yds or less. blue

My buddy just bought that scope in the mildot version($125). It seems like a good scope for the price. The only thing I didn't care for was the reticle thickness between the mildots. It would be fine for mil ranging big game but a little to reticle heavy for varmints.

One of the reviews on Cabela's website said that at night the scope is terrible compared to the guys other scope, a Nikon Buckmaster...is he just talking rubbish? How are they with low light transmission? I might put a 2-7x on my Marlin 30-30 lever action.

I effectively paid only $120 for my Simmons .44 magnum scope. It is 6 x 20 and has the side adjustable AO, target turrets, and a mil dot reticle.

i'll throw in a weaver fixed 4 or 6 power....i'm not going to get on a soapbox about how great they are for the money; but you should look through one and see for yourself. that being said, you may need more magnification for the long arizona shots, in the hills of nc a fixed 4 is all any hunter would need.

DGW, sportsmans guide had intensity scopes for 79.99 a while back and may still. it's worth a look.

For coyote hunting, the Mueller Sport Dot 3x10 is pretty darn good. It wouldn't be bad for deer either. The dot illuminates for night hunting, making it versatile. It's also a great aid in helping to get on an animal in a hurry.

There's a lot of good scopes to choose from as everyone has suggested. I've just had good luck with my Mueller for the money, so can't complain.
