If You Had To Pick Only 3 Mouth Blown Calls.....

I appreciate a finely made hand call. I even make a few myself from native woods. I just like how disposable production grade calls are.

FoxPro Pied Piper

Burnham Mini Blaster

Weems Cottontail

Lots of great information ! Thanks !

I find it interesting that the brands sold in the Big Box stores are pretty much absent from the list, with the exception of one or two....

Weems Duo tone
Tally Ho
Lohman(Circe) MVP-3

Bill Austin Howler-Male and Female

This makes 5....sorry

If you pick up a howler, you had better know the coyote language.

Carver 220 Swift. If there could only be one, that would be it.

Old green rubber Sceery jackrabbit. Good call and we have covered lots of country together.

Big Carver open reed call out of the Strictly Business set. Put that in for some variety. But it could be a Song Dog or Tally Ho just as easy.

If I had to pick only 3 mouth blown calls I'd pick all 3 from Carver.

For almost 11 years I used only one mouth blown call. It was a Weems Wild Call I bought for $3 sometime back in the early 60's. IMO the only reason for someone to need more than one call is to have a replacement in case you blow out an open reed call or lose one. You can always buy spare reeds for a closed reed call which is what I did back when.

im not a seasoned caller but have called 3 or 4 while i was out.

my 3:

- Knight & Hale Hecklin Howler! i can bark & howl very well with this, ive used it as 1 of my bark/howl calls all 3 times ive called one in.

- Primos Catnip. it makes a wide variety of sounds and i can call with it hands free clutched in my teeth to coax them in without moving.

- Primos Little Dog combo. makes good female/pup barks & howls as well as kiy-yi's, easy to use!

I have a couple of custom calls from people on this forum and unfortunately I don't have details on them. But I have a couple of the Ruffi Dawg calls (orange and black) that have worked very well for me.

I know I posted previously, stating that I couldn't pick just 3 calls.

However, if I was forced to.....

....One of my "Frenzy Pup" pup howlers

....A little open reed that was one of the 1st calls I made, back in '07.
It has a cow horn body.
The toneboard is a Tony Tebbe original (the 'board that he used to use for his Yote Smoker & Feline Frenzy calls).
And the reed is a .010" that is based off the Feline Frenzy reed.
And, yes, Tony gave me permission to do so, back in the day. Hahaha

....Verminator Syco Tweety

It really IS difficult to only choose 3.
There are so many great call makers (I don't include myself, as I am only mediocre).
And with 125-150 calls in the collection...well, it's just dang difficult.

I love my Dan Thompson calls and have called and killed a bunch of critters with them. I also like the sounds coming out of the Haydel calls as well. My third choice would be the Verminator series. Great sounding and easy to use.

Great thread!
