I was into hour four of a two call set for a friend. The spalted stock was rock solid until I got half into it.

Welcome to 'Punky World' and enjoy some pictures of some very pretty kindling wood. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

Tell me it ain't so.

Can you make me some toothpicks out of it????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Try some Minwax wood hardner, let it soak until it sinks. If you haven't put a finish on the other call you will need to do the same so they will both darken and still match. Let it dry for a week.

Then breakout the 80 grit "skew to clean that mess up. See it really wasn't that "bad"

Hi Marvin!

These picts are of both calls in the set, both from the same blank. I've been down the hardener route before, but these guys are way beyond help. It's a total loss. I think the only way to make calls from this mess is to have them bronzed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I could throw them at critters, then. LOL!!

Thanks for sharing my pain, brothers.

I hear ya Rudy, I have some that's just like that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Rudy, I've eight 2x2 sticks that are 30 inches long or so of wood just like that sitting in my shop. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Needless to say, I was pretty darn ticked off at that eBay auction. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

gal i would have loved to see those two had the wood been solid. they looked like they had some real potential

It was amazing stock, for sure. And the fella I was making the calls for was really cool about the whole thing, too. I'll take care of him later, you can be sure.

Thanks for listening to the rant, gang.

Keep 'em turnin'.

Rudy
