I shoot a Rem r-25 / DPMS in 243, at the rate I’m going, I see a new bbl in my not too distant future, thinking of a 1-9 it has a 1-10 now but I’d like to shoot the 105 V-Max and the 87’s I really like how the 87’s work on coyotes but love the idea of a .500bc of the 105’s in a higher quality barrel for long range stuff.

So any one know of a good smith that can do the work? I was going to call White Oak and see if they work on DPMS , I have had a few of their service rifle top ends that shoot great.

if I'm going to re barrrel it I'll want to up grade in barrel quality. its just sub MOA 5 shot now but I know with a good barrel it can shoot better. and I don't think REm or PDMS will do a 1-9 twist needed for the 105gr

I thought of doing it myself, but was hoping Id find a good rifle smith that could save me the cost of reamers and reciver jigs. looking at buy another upper rec and doing a side bolt conversion at the same time, as it tuff with my NV on top to charge it. so I could send in a upper/bolt and have it barreld do the side chargign myslef and have two top ends one in 1-10 for 87 and lighter and one in 1-8 for the 105's & 115's

the more I think about it I think thats they way to go I can get a ss 20" DPMS in 243 for $250 or so from midway. now jsut need a smith to do the barrel work?

I wouldn't get the reamers.... I'd order a complete barrel from BHW. They are right around the same price as that DPMS and much better quality IMO. The receiver block and a wrench is all you would need to buy.

I agree, go with the BHW barrel and do it yourself if you have room. OR give D9Firearms a call and they have a couple 243 wilson barrels in that are 1/8 twist. He loves the AR10's and is great to deal with.

Just to save you a call, I had called mike to rebarrel my. Ar10 and he said he is so backed up that he wasn't handling the larger platform until it slows down. It might have changed but this was about 4 weeks ago.

Also Midway sells a decent looking 1-8 twist fluted 243 barrel from AR stoner. Have no idea how it shoots or anything else about it, but it's $350. Not bad for a 24" fluted barrel.

I have an upper built with a R-25 243 barrel, and I can vouch for how well they shoot. But, if I was choosing a new barrel, I'd want it longer and faster twist.

tooling as in head space gauges, chambering reamers, floating reamer guide you need a special wrench to pull or install the lugs on the barrel I'd need to buy the lugs, reciver blocks etc etc etc. Oh and then I have to go talk nice to my old boss to get on the lathe. a lot of chash to lay out for just one barrel job but

not having to kiss his,,,,, makes this deal a whole lot sweeter.
