Im GenX..

I remember seeing Steve Miller live at the Zoo Amphitheatre in the early ’90s. My girlfriend and I were tripping on acid, passing joints around while beach balls floated overhead. Don’t tell anyone, but I had a pretty liberal mindset back then. I couldn’t have cared less who you voted for. Life seemed a whole lot simpler in those days.

..and I was just informed that 1986 was, in fact, not 20 years ago.
My oldest daughter was born in 1986… I know for fact she would inform you that it is quite factually not 20 years ago!
Guns N' Roses is considered classic rock...
Agree that Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers and so many others will always be “Classic Rock” before I would consider G&R the same. But get this… A few years back I was struggling to find a radio station in my truck. I found “Eye Of The Tiger” and went with it. When the DJ came on and announced it was an “Oldies” station I was floored. Almost pulled into a pharmacy to pick up some Geritol!

I got screwed on some shows in the 80's... Saw OZZY in early 1983 on the Speak of the Devil tour. Unfortunately it was after Randy Rhoads died. Brad Gillis from Night Ranger was his guitarist at the time trying to help Ozzy out and man, some people treated him like dirt! Throwing stuff at him and booing his solos. Felt a bit bad for the guy.

I saw Black Sabbath in 84 during their Born Again tour. Unfortunately after DIO bailed, and Bill Ward wasn't drumming. Ian Gillan of Deep Purple singing and the dude from ELO drumming. They played Smoke On The Water for an encore of all things!

I thought I was going to see a great show in Jefferson Starship... Unfortunately it was only "Starship" at the time and it was awful! Grace Slick was still kind of scary though, so not all bad!

It wasn't all bad, I saw Peter Gabriel in 82 on his Security Tour. Great show. I saw Blue Oyster Cult in 83... Crazy good show. It was the one and only show where I got to drink Gin from one side of my friend's binoculars and vodka from the other! 😜

Man, I would kill to have seen Peter Gabriel.

I went to so many concerts "back in the day" I can't begin to count or remember them all. From 1978 into around 1988'ish I went to almost every concert that came to town in Salt Lake. Which, surprisingly, had a pretty healthy scene and most of the big tours played the Salt Palace back then. I was definitely into the music. But more into the metal sluts. Man, do I have a soft spot in my heart for the metal sluts of the 80's. I went to a lot of concerts I wasn't really even interested in just for the chicks. Never had any interest in REO, but oh my goodness the chick to dude ratio was favorable!

Most of those 80's hair metal bands actually kind of sucked live though. Not that many of them could actually play worth a darn. Some definitely could though!

First concert I went to, was the Doobie Bros in '78, think it was the Minute by Minute tour. I didn't know what I didn't know. I thought it was great. But didn't have the context at the time to appreciate just how great. They were fantastic. As the years went by and I saw so many hair bands that couldn't play a lick, live, on stage, that Doobie Bros concert started ranking higher and higher on my list of good ones.

Second I went to also in '78, was AC/DC, Powerage tour, which changed my life in some ways. It was actually an Aerosmith concert. AC/DC was the warm up band. I had heard of AC/DC, but that's it, didn't know any of their songs. Angus and Bon absolutely tore it up! Blew my mind. Went out the next day and bought the album. Started buying all their back catalog. Aerosmith straight up sucked. Drunk, stoned, don't know, but they sounded like chit. AC/DC mopped the stage with them. Never got to see AC/DC with Bon again. But saw them many times with Brian Johnson starting with the Back in Black tour. And I actually landed on top of Angus while he was walking through the crowd on the For Those About to Rock tour. I dived from above. Haven't seen them in a very long time though. Last time was more than thirty years ago, three kids got crushed and killed when the people on the floor started pushing towards the front. Bad, bad scene.

First time I saw Guns and Roses they were AWFUL. Literally got booed off the stage. They were warming up for Motley Crue. They were so bad, and getting booed so loud, that like halfway through the third song Axl pitched a hissy fit and they walked off the stage.

Last time I saw them, five or six years ago, they were amazing. Goes to show what being sober and needing to make your money off concert tickets can do for a band. Can kind of say the same for Motley. Saw them five or six times, never very impressed - but the metal slut turnout for Motley shows was EPIC! But last time I saw them, maybe ten, twelve years ago, they were amazing too. Same deal, sober, needing the money. Poison warmed up for that one, all original lineup - they had always been awful live, but they were solid that time too.

Saw Ozzy on the Blizzard tour with Randy. Then on the Diary tour. Bark at the Moon tour.

And on and on. I didn't see them all, but I saw most of them.
