Im leaving for texas on the 4rth of feb. I dont really know the town or anything i just know its 2 hour southwest of san antonio. We are huntin for five days. Im hopin to get some good hog hunts and havalina(spellin?) and of course some good cat and yote hunt footage.

Anybody from around there let me know how the huntin is. I dont know wether to be excited or worried. I know the hogs will be good but im worried about the cats and yotes more than anything. Im so excited. This is the biggest thing to happen to me since my first time i even called a yote.

Can't go wrong in that area. Best hunting I ever had was out that way.. Hunt hogs hard. Heard the pred hunting is decent also. Javalinas are neat little buggers. You can sneak up pretty close to them if you bowhunt. Good luck.

Right now I'm planning to be in the area the same weekend for a Youth javelina (correct spelling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)hunt on Texas Parks and Wildlife land. Last year about this same time we saw coyotes every where! That area of the state is covered with them. I was just getting back into critter hunting then. I used my preymaster, and the only thing I could get to respond was javelina! I had one step out onto the sendero and look our way, until he spotted the decoy. For some reason that spooked him and he returned to the brush. I started calling again, and it was same song, second verse. When I fired up the call the third time, my boy busted him. That was his second, the first being thanksgiving weekend, when he also shot his first whitetail. If you've never hunted down there, you're in for a treat!
Good Luck!

You will need either the Non-resident 5-day special hunting (good for game birds except turkey, non-game, and javalina) for $45.00 or the Non-resident special hunting (good for the same thing as the 5-day for $125.00.

That sounds like the Uvalde area or possibly San Angelo.

yellowhammer

san angelo is 3hr northwest of san antonio and Uvalde is west it sounds like he will be in the middle of the GOLDEN TRIANGLE Cotulla or Crystal City where the heavy mesquite is

steve be sure to stop at the taxidermist and see the monster deer the shoot there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Good luck on your trip steve. If you path should bring you through Shreveport on your journey. save a day. I would be glad to give you a morning of yote hunting. Randy

Steve, I will be hunting down there in that area at that same time. This will be my 11th year to hunt in south Texas and it is always a great trip. There are lots of coyotes, bobcat, hogs and javelina to hunt. The calling can be tough at times because the cactus and mesqite is so thick. Do you know how big the ranch is and how much calling pressure it gets? If you can hunt at night on that ranch you might want to try that also. okhunter

Sounds like a great time. I'm heading to S Texas myself. I leave on Friday and will arrive on Sunday. Snowgeese, hogs and coyotes are on the menu. I'm like a little kid! I'm so excited I can hardly sleep.

Randy
