I’m wanting a good tripod setup

The best tripod I have found for the money is the Two Vets QDT. I know guys that have traded in RRS $1400 legs for them and are happy. The two vets legs can be had right around $575 I think. They legs are only good as the head you put on them but between the rrs leveling head and the bh55 you have some solid options. The feisol legs are “good” but for $25 or so less than the QDT it’s a no brainer, they aren’t even close to the stability of the Two Vets.

Rrs make the best legs out there but you will pay for them and dollar for dollar I’m not sure they are even %5 better than the Two Vets.

I have heard of some other companies making some really decent legs recently but haven’t Travis any of them.

IMO clamps are a noGo. An arca rail that the gun can’t slide in and out of is huge and an absolute must. (I dropped a pulsar out of one and shattered it)

since U seem to know so much none of us lower cost tripod owners dont know with all of our BLAH BLAH typing that we do..U should have added we will probably miss unless we have a 10k rifle to shoot as well OR better yet if we dont have and arent careless enough to drop and destroy a thermal we probably arent real hunters are we.....hahahahahaha......YJASFI PERIOD!
 
I don’t know what YJASFI means but ok bud. Not sure you needed to type that out AND the Pm You sent me being an [beeep] but whatever makes you feel better. If you rock a $150 tripod that’s cool dude run what you can. I’m just not going to say that it’s a good setup and that shouldn’t bother you. Why are you so triggered?
 
The thing with tripods is you don't know what a good pod can do until you have used a good one. A good pod is worth the money. It will most likely be my next night hunting upgrade. My desmond makes the night stalker look flimsy and I could use a little more stability than it offers.

That was the point of my post. A lot of guys will talk about how budget tripod x,y,z is awesome until they use a “good” one and then they tend to see where the money goes

True, but if I was going to add a leveling head I would not buy that model Reaper Grip. I would buy the direct mount model for 1/2 the price.

Thats exactly right. Instead of guys getting butthurt about hearing that their $150 dollar tripods not comparing to the quality of a premium tripod, understand that some guys want quality the first time they purchase and others are tired of the shortcoming of entry level equipment. I'm in the "buy once, cry once" category and so are lots of others so don't whine when guys offer an opinion if you can't afford or justify a purchase.

I actually do own a Bog tripod and its garbage compared to my 2 Vets, RRS or even the Innorell RT90.
 
I agree with a lot of points on this thread. Many times you do get what you pay for.

However, you start to get to a point where it takes a lot of additional money to get minimal improvement. Where this point/line is and if it is worth it, varies for every person and situation. This can be said for hunting equipment, cars, houses, etc. Is a Ford Raptor truck worth the premium over a Ford 150 when they do 90% the same thing. To some no, and to some yes.

There are lots of people who think you need to spend $7-10K on a thermal or its junk. I have several hundred coyotes since September that will tell you the $3K Super Hogster does the job for me. Those same coyotes were also shot using a $195 Night Stalker or a $499 Night Stalker Pro depending on the night/stand. Could I have gotten by with a cheaper or way more expensive tripod, yes. Would I consider spending over 1K for a tripod, if I felt it made a substantial improvement, probably. I know the Night Stalkers work for me. Am I foolish enough to think that the ball-head on a $195 carbon fiber Night Stalker is as good as an RRS 55 ball head that costs over $500 just for the ball head, no. The question as originally stated comes down to, IS IT WORTH IT TO YOU? Only the person reading this, can probably answer that question.
 
I think sitting down like kirsch probably eliminates the needs for extra sturdy legs. When your tall and need a stem for extra height flex in a cheap pod really shows up. When we shoot at a coyote we expect it to die. If I feel there is a weak link it gets fixed. I had a a flimsy pod an now our call sits on it. When you are limited on area and recall the same spots coyotes get hard to find and 200 is a close shot a good pod shines.

There is no question the Pro is more study than the standard, but it comes at 2x the weight and 2.5x the price. Options are good.
 
For the record I wasn’t dogging the night goggles tripods. I think that in their price range, they are where I would spend my money. My point was that if you are looking for “high end”, or “Good” I assumed the OP wanted to be in the same ballpark as the tripods that are considered top of the line. I don’t think the night stalker is quite there. Not saying it’s not a great setup for the money and I’m not saying anyone should feel any kind of way about buying one. It’s a solid option in that budget. Just in case my post ruffled some feathers lol
 
Well I ended up finding a used/like new Innorel RT90C on Facebook Marketplace ... should be here in a couple days. For the price I couldn’t pass it up! It’s coming with a cheap Chinese ball head so I may just run my Spartan Davros head on it for now until I decide what setup I want to top it with. These Innorel RT90Cs have an 80lb + weight rating and look stout as [beeep]! Can’t wait to try it out!
 
FWIW Spartan has the Davros Pro coming out. Regular ballhead type with the mag attach. Ill be replacing my original Davros if the price isn't obsurd.
 
Today I placed my order with Two Vets. I ordered a No Name tripod and a 55 ball head with QR plate. There will be no center post, ball head mounted direct and the tripod is rated for 55 lbs. Should be solid. I don't shoot comps or anything like that so I think this setup will be just what I need. At least I hope so, fingers crossed.

Also, for any of you who are interested Two Vets does give a veterans discount.
