Could someone tell me if is good on 22-250? I´m planning using 55 Nosler Bt out of a 1 to 14 barrel

If someone could share some loads would be of great help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif.

Thanks

It shot extremely well out of a friend's .22-250. But, the velocities were a bit low with 55 grain bullets, around 3500 fps., if I remember correctly.

I like it in my .243 Win. with 70 grain Nosler's though.

IMR3031 is awesome powder just hard to meter, I going out to dinner but I'll get ya some data when I get back. I'm sure alot of guys use in 250's.

Used it for years in my 22-250. I switched to Varget just to give that a try since so many reloaders speak well of it. But I'd go back to 3031 without any problem. Nothing wrong with 3500 fps and a 55gr slug. It's accuracy that's important, not velocity.

When I had my shop I kept alot of 3031 around to load ammo to test fire used guns. It will work in just about everything but lg mags. Still use it in the 223(favorite), 250 Sav., 25-35, and 300 Sav.

Yeah, me too. Really good even. I see no reason why it would not be dandy in the 22/250. It may not give you the highest velocities there is, but it has been around a long time and has been a favorite for many. I bet the amount burned in .220 and 22/250 barrels can be measured in the tons.

Here are my succesful loads with IMR3031 all of them are 'real hot' so work up slowly, they were run in a Rem 788 slow twist 24" bbl all shot .25-.70" groups

sierra 50 blitz, 35.2gr ave vel 3850@ 400' 72F

horn 52 A-max, 35.3gr ave vel 3740@ 400' 81F

horn 55 V-max, 34.5gr ave vel 3710@ 3800' 89F

Geeze, yotekyllr, what are you shooting one of those ugly heavy azzed 788's for? No peeking at my avatar, either.

I'm kind of an IMR junkie, even though I only shoot modest amounts. Reasonable results velocity and accuracy wise, even better versatility. The possible loads cover the range from DC to daylight.

I use it for 223, 22-250, 243, 308 that I can think of right off hand. Skipped only 25-06 and 270.

For the 22's I have gotten a lot of mileage by tweaking up a max load for a 55 and use the same thing (charge) pretty freely for the 50, 52, and 53 grain bullets. Accuracy is great, velocity may not be the best that the charts show but I can easily live with that. It is so close to the max that other variables shadow the shortcomings, if any.

I'd get real nervous if I could not spot at least a pound of 3031 and 4064, each, on my shelf.

You can probably look at any one bullet weight, caliber, and cartridge and find a "better" powder. That probably is not true if you looked at a hand full of each of the variables. Makes life a lot simpler.

3031 works in everything from .223 to 45-70 I know I have used it in a lot of differant chamberings I think I even loaded some 22-250's years back. Just pick up any good manual from Sp[eer or Hornady that should give you lots of loads.

Because spray paint doesn't affect the accuracy!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

IMR- 3031 seems to work best with the lite to med. weight bullets best. may not get high vel compared to other powders but it produces good accuracy..
