In the market for a relatively cheap electronic coyote call

It's funny how predator calling has changed over just the past 15 years or so. Back in the 80's, when I started, every predator caller I knew used hand calls. If one was an extremely dedicated predator caller and could afford it, they would step up to an electronic caller. That was the progression. Of course, you always had your hand calls on you. Some how, some way, the stage (and art) of hand calling has or is getting skipped. Technology I guess, but it's a shame. Especially when the batteries die.

Get yourself a couple/three hand calls and go hunting. Start out with a closed reed call, but practice with an open reed call. The closed reed call is pretty dummy proof, except it lacks the volume and can/will freeze up in the Canada winter air. You'll naturally progress to the open reed for it's volume and variety. But there is definitely a learning curve to using one. Give it a season or so, then implement an ecaller if you need to or want to.

Hope that helps...

Tony

spend the money for a foxpro you wont be disappointed.if you decide its not for you list on the classifides it will sell quickly.but with the foxpro you can bet that if there are coyotes in the area you have a great chance of calling them in,getting addicted than spending even more on your next call

I bought my son a Circe. Easy call to use. They have several models. I also picked up an open reed that he is learning very quickly. It's the Foxpro Skyote. He picked it because it is blue. Turns out it is a very nice and easy open reed to use.

You really don't know what you're talking about.

I've had great luck with a JS Attactor in combination with hand calls. I carried one for years while bird hunting. Some times you run into a spot that just screams call here.
I have asthma so long calling sessions can end half way through with a coughing spell so just a quick series on the mouth call and leave the attactor running works for me.

In WA we can no longer hunt coyotes while we have a dog present. Realy sucks, my Trooper loved to sit alongside me and cover the backdoor with his nose.

i have a wildfire and love it. very much worth the $300 i paid for it. as far as hand calls go, i like the primos still cottontail and the hot dog. pup distress(ki-yi) works great this time of year. i tried almost everything in the book yesterday evening but as soon as i hit the pup distress a big dark yote came bolting in. too bad we couldnt get a shot but there's nothing like that rush. good luck with whatever calls you get

Tell you what Whitetail Hunter. I see that you're relatively new here and trying to learn the fine art of calling. I'm going to do you a solid and send three new hand calls out to you, no charge. I'll send you a closed reed, an open reed, and a bite call. Practice, practice, practice and make sure to post pics of your first coyote when you call it and kill it. Good Hunting!

P.M. me your address.

You really don't know what you're talking about. that is what i was told by a friend and foxpro distributer he said to just buy it on e bay because he couldn't beat the prices he also had over 700 pelts that he sold last year. However i havent researched it any further than that

I forgot to add that I have had several hand calls over the years and I always carry 3 Primos hand calls with me on each outing.(Hot dog, KI-Yi, lil-dog) Yes call me lazy, but I do use the E-caller 80%-90% of the time. I have the hand calls mostly for backup in case the E-caller batteries were to go dead. Yes I can still call in yotes with the hand calls, but as I get older I am not as full of wind as I was years ago. LOL.....

If you have more time than money build your own. lots of info on the web on diy e callers. I still use the one i made 3 years ago. no remote but you won't get one with a cheap call anyway. The grand total was about 40 bucks. Grab the sounds off of Predator University website and go to work. I use my phone to play the sounds airplane mode is your friend.

Same here we built an e-caller to work off of a MP3 player. But I also use some cheap hand calls, I should save a little bit of money up to buy some better hand calls. But the 4 year old neice loves to come over to my house and call the "dogs" in LOL my wife hates it!! As soon as season comes around will be taken her out and the teenage sister-in-law I've got started to shoot! It will be a blast. Have never used a foxpro so couldn't give you feedback just a DIY Caller and cheap hand calls.

The hand calls I promised are on the way Whitetail Hunter. Make sure you put them to good use and post pics of your first called coyote with them. We don't want to have to send out a lynch mob after ya.
